Varnville, South Carolina -  Mattie Lee Lingard Murdaugh was born May 24, 1957, to the Late Henry Lingard, Sr. and Mel Capers Lingard in Varnville, South Carolina.  She was the fourth  of five children.  She departed this life and was ushered home by a host of angels to be with the Lord on Monday, April 7, 2014, at the Colleton Regional Medical Center, Walterboro, South Carolina.

At an early age she joined Antioch Christian Church in Varnville, South Carolina.  She loved the Lord with all her being.

Mattie Lee was educated in the public schools of Hampton County, South Carolina.

She was employed as a secretary with Coastal Empire Mental Health Center until her health began to fail.

She married Vernon Murdaugh; and to this union, one child was born.  She was a loving and devoted mother to her daughter and granddaughter.

She is preceded in death by her parents and one brother, Nickey Anthony Lingard

She leaves to cherish her loving memory: Her devoted companion for over 23 years, Myron Chaun Kearse of the home.  Her daughter: Shelia Murdaugh of Jacksonville, North Carolina.  One granddaughter,Gionna Morris. Three brothers:  Henry Lingard, Jr. (Lois) of Johnson City, Tennessee; Roy Rogers Lingard of Varnville, South Carolina and Matthew Lingard of Fairfax, South Carolina.   Two maternal aunts: Martha Capers and Elizabeth Capers Smith (James Lee), all of Varnville, South Carolina.  Four  maternal uncles:  James Capers of Varnville, South Carolina; Elijah Capers (Minnie Lee) of Hephzibah, Georgia; Timothy Capers of Whiteville, North Carolina; and Matthew Capers of Varnville, South Carolina. Five paternal aunts:  Gereacher Outing,  Maggie Robinson, Dora Lingard and  Albertha Brown all of Varnville, South Carolina and Ms. Lennis Grant of Brooklyn, New York.  One paternal uncle, Andrew Lingard (Iola) of Varnville, South Carolina.  One niece; Five nephews; Four grandnieces; and Eight grandnephews.  A host of great-grand nieces & nephews, cousins and caring friends.
