Brother Lawrence Theodore Mobley, Jr. was born in Brooklyn, New York on March 22, 1945.  He was the third child of seven children born to the late Mr. Lawrence Theodore Mobley, Sr. and Mrs. Ella Mobley. On Wednesday, May 21, 2014, he received rest from earthly toils while at his residence in Islandton, South Carolina.

He graduated from Boys High School in Brooklyn, New York.  “Junior”, as he was affectionately called, was drafted into the United States Army in May, 1963, receiving an honorable discharge in May, 1965.

He worked several years as a postal carrier at the United States Post Office in Brooklyn, New York.  The family relocated from Brooklyn, New York to Texas.  Lawrence Theodore Mobley, Jr. became a member of True Vine Missionary Baptist Church in Fort Worth, Texas.  There, he was a faithful member serving the body of Christ as a Men’s Choir member.  Brother Lawrence Theodore Mobley, Jr.  retired from Verizon.  When his health failed, he moved to South Carolina.  Since moving to South Carolina, he has regularly attended Toby United Methodist Church, Islandton, South Carolina.  For a short period of time, “Junior” sang with the choir until his health declined.

He was always a jovial person with his humor and outgoing spirit.  If you asked him how he felt, his reply would be “I’m fine.   I have the Man upstairs and my family.”

Brother Mobley is preceded in death by his wife, Mary Katherine.

He leaves to cherish his memories: (3) Sisters: Margay Stephens (James) of Islandton, South Carolina, Barbara Simmons (Sam) of Queens, New York, and Lula Mobley of Almeda, California; (3) Brothers:  Andrew Mobley (Joanne) of Brooklyn, New York,  Vernon Mobley of Denver, Colorado, and Dennis Mobley (Cheryl) of Clarksville, Tennessee; A loving fiancée, Kathy Buckner of Islandton, South Carolina;  His loving niece, Valerie Jones and nephew, James Stephens, who were always at his beck and call; A host of nieces, nephews, and friends. He also leaves behind (6) Stepchildren: Shirley McGriff of Arlington, Texas, Dorinda Wesley of Boston, Massachusetts,  Elmo Wesley, III of White Plains, New York, Maria Milner of Spring, Texas, Ronald Wesley of Vancouver, Washington, and Venita Knock of Atlanta, Georgia.
