An useful life ended Thursday, March 27, 2014 at the Regional Medical Center, Orangeburg, South Carolina. Deacon James Adams was called from labor to reward.
Dea. Adams, son of the late Mr. James Adams and Mrs. Annie Mae Adams, was born October 30, 1938 in Brooklyn, New York.
At an early age, “Butchie” to some and “Woodie” to others, was converted to Christ and joined Cornerstone Baptist Church, Brooklyn, New York. He was educated in the public school system of New York. Upon graduation, Deacon James Adams enlisted in the United States Navy in 1958, from which he received an honorable discharge from duty. Thereafter, Deacon Adams joined All People’s Church of the Apostolic Faith Incorporated in Brooklyn, New York under the pastorate of Bishop Italy Corkley.
On June 24, 1961, he was united in Holy Matrimony to the former Vionnia Dunbar.
He was a 1992 retiree of New York City Transit Authority where he had been gainfully employed as a trackman for twenty-four (24) years. After retirement, Deacon James Adams relocated to South Carolina and became a member of Zion Fair Baptist Church, Varnville, South Carolina. Serving faithfully as a member, Deacon Adams was called and ordained as a deacon, currently serving as Chairman of the Board of Deacons.
Preceding him in death are: his father, James Adams, Sr.; his mother, Annie Mae Adams; his brother, Joseph Adams; his mother-in-law, Maggie Ree Dunbar; his father-in-law, Deacon Jasper Dunbar; A sister-in-law, Maggie Williams; (3) Brother-in-laws: Conevy Williams, William Vern Dunbar, and Earl Carsenave.
He leaves to mourn the home going his wife, Evangelist Vionnia Adams; (1) Daughter, Tonie A. Brown (Erskine) of Bronx, New York; (1) Son, James Adams, Jr. of Brooklyn, New York; (1) Step son, Smolosky Dunbar (Ella Mae); (4) Grandchildren: Emanuel Brown of Bronx, New York; Latoyia Minor (Daniel) of Orlando, Florida; Tristan Adams and Ava Adams, both of Shirley, New York; (1) Great grandchild, Ethan Brown of Brentwood; (3) Sisters: Mabel Adams of New York; Beatrice A. Carsenave of Brooklyn, New York and Beverly A. Fields of Harrisonburg, Virginia; A host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
