The Obituary
Harry “Earl” Allen was born on November 22, 1943, in Ruffin, South Carolina to the late Mr. Arthur and Mrs. Martha Allen. He was the oldest of 8 children born to this union. Harry departed this life on Tuesday, June 28, 2022, in Richmond, Virginia. Affectionately known to family as “Earl,” he attended Ruffin High School Ruffin, South Carolina, and later continued his education at Morris College, Columbia, South Carolina. He enlisted in the United States Army, 1965 to 1968, during the Vietnam War, with the 8th Engineer Battalion, First Cavalry Division (Airmobile). Upon receiving an Honorable Discharge from service, he later attended Beaufort Technical Education Center, Beaufort, South Carolina where he studied industrial electricity and carpentry. He gave his life to Christ at an early age and became an active member of Deep Creek Baptist Church, Islandton, South Carolina where he enjoyed serving as a Trustee, singing on the male chorus, and fellowshipping with church members. Earl has always been a leader and servant Earl entered into holy matrimony to Rosa Cohen Allen. He later worked for Dayco in Williston, South Carolina as a supervisor for 20 years until he retired in 2004. His hobbies and interests included: family, traveling, and checking on his friends. But most all, he enjoyed fishing from every creek, river, and ocean from the east and west coast! He was definitely the “World’s Greatest Fisherman” in his family’s eyes. Earl was predeceased by a loving daughter, Teri L. Allen; brothers: Charles Allen, Tommy Allen, and Baby Boy Allen; Sister-in-law, Katie Terry Allen; brothers-in-law: Jackie Bowman and Johnny Glover. He is survived by his wife, Rosa Cohen Allen; Devoted daughter, Lakeshia Allen; Son, Rufus (Tanya) Cohen; (2) Brothers: Larry Allen (Doris) of Ruffin, SC and James (Corine) Allen of Savannah, GA; Sisters: Betty Bowman and Gloria Glover , both of Walterboro, SC; One uncle, Pastor John (Wilma) Gadson of Paterson, NJ; Brothers-in-law: Bishop James (Evangelist Willie Mae) Cohen of Hampton, SC, Deacon Larry (Evangelist Joyce) Cohen of Varnville, SC, and LeeRoy Cohen of Augusta, GA; Sisters-in-law: Florence Nichols of Springfield, MA, Elizabeth Cohen of Richmond, VA; Louise (Don) Conner of Varnville, SC; and Gail Allen, Walterboro, SC; Devoted friends: Mr. Bobby Stratford, Mr. Donell Lester, Mr. Earl Choice, Deacon Nathan Stephens, Mr. Herman Broughton, Mr. George Malone, Mr. Tyrone Adams, Mr. Willard Wilson, Mr. Jimmy Adams, Mr. Nate Johnson, Mr. Daniel Ewing, and Mr. Walt; And a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, friends, and his Deep Creek Baptist Church family whom he loved deeply.
