Mr. James Gardner, the son of James Loadholt and Jeannette Gardner, was born in Brooklyn, New York on June 19, 1961. Everyone who knew and loved him called him Crush.

He was educated in the public schools of Brooklyn, New York.  Following high school, he enlisted in the United States Army where he served for six years before he was honorably discharged in 1987.  After returning from service, Crush moved down south to Islandton, South Carolina. While living there, he held several positions, none more important than being a provider and protector for his family. Crush was a strong man who did not let his health issues later in life define him. Even during his final days of battling illness, he remained the same funny, caring, compassionate and cool Crush that we all loved.

He departed from this life on Thursday, August 25, 2022 in the tranquility of his home, leaving a void in the hearts of many.

He leaves behind to cherish his memory: mother, Jeannette Gardner, Islandton, South Carolina; two children: DaQuan Sellers, Charlotte, North Carolina and, Uniqua Lawrence, Dallas, Texas; two brothers: Michael (Karen) Fennell, Islandton, South Carolina and, Willie Gardner, Brooklyn, New York; two grandchildren: Bryson Sellers, Charlotte, North Carolina, and his “T.T.” Trinity Sellers, Florence, South Carolina; goddaughter, Latoya Reid, Florence, South Carolina; along with many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
