Mrs. Clara Lee Mickens was born on September 20, 1934. She was the first child born to the union of the late Mr. Odell Williams and Mrs. Lucille Glover Williams. She was a decedent of the late Mr. Ben and Mrs. Sue McQuire Williams and Mr. Lucius and Mrs. Lynah Risher Glover. Her formative academic education was in the public schools of Hampton County, South Carolina. Later in life, she received her Graduate Equivalent Diploma (GED) by attending night classes at the former North District Training School of Varnville, South Carolina. She joined and was baptized at Old Harmonia under the leadership of the late Pastor E. W. Williams. In September of 1952, she united in Holy Matrimony to the late Mr. Douglas Edward Mickens, Sr.; this union was blessed with eight children; three preceded her in death. “Granny”, as she was affectionately called, had a passion to care for the sick and subsequently enrolled in Allendale County T-Square Nursing Program. Upon completion, she was overjoyed to receive her certificate as a nurse’s assistant. Granny was passionate about cooking as well. Everyone knew that at Granny’s house, you could find a good home cooked meal, any time of the day. She eventually joined the cooking staff at the former North District Training School in Varnville, South Carolina where she was a former member of the Order of Eastern Star. “Naked came I out of my mother’s womb, and naked shall I return thither: the Lord hath taken away; blessed be the name of the Lord.” (Job 1:21) In addition to her husband and parents, she’s preceded in death by three children: Ricky Mickens, Verlene M. Jackson, and Joyce O’della M. Doctor; two grandsons: Kelsey Tyshawn Mickens and Hassan Collins; three brothers: Lehmell Williams, Rossie L. Williams and Willie L. “Huddie” Williams. “So do not fear; for I am with you; do not be dismayed, for I and your God". I will strengthen you and help you; I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.” Isaiah 41:10 (NIV) She is survived by her beloved children: Velma Mickens Carter (Pastor Wayne G.), Douglas E. Mickens, Jr. (Rather), Alfredia Mickens Fields, Cynthia Mickens Riley (Alvin) and Linda Y. Mickens Foster; One brother, John P.
