Shirley Ann Washington Reed was born October 28th, 1952. She was born to Mrs. Maggie Mae and Trustee Ernest Washington, Sr. After fighting a long and hard fight, on Friday, January 14th, 2022, at Augusta University, 3:15 p.m., Shirley was called home to be with her mother and father.

Shirley graduated from Blackville High School, Class of 1972. Upon graduation, she married Lonnie Lee Reed. The couple, in 1972, moved to Harlem, New York. Born to this union were two daughters, my girls, as she would say: Felicia O. Reed-Thomas (Natif Thomas) of Danbury, CT, and Keyetta C. Reed of Harlem New York.

Shirley was employed by the New York City Board of Education as a District Head Cook. After twenty years of employment, she retired. Shirley enjoyed meeting people and was “The Fan Club” member of the Golden chariots. She enjoyed spending time with her family and going to her gospel concerts.

Preceding Shirley in death, in addition to her parents, were her brothers: Pernell Washington and Earnell Washington; and her sister, Nancy Carolyn Washington.

In addition to her husband and children, Shirley leaves behind a host of grandkids: Shante Austin, NJ; Landarius Frost Jr., Danbury CT; Makahi Reed, Harlem NY; Noah Jordan Williams, Harlem, NY; Laila Sky Brown, Danbury, CT; and Lynnette Roundtree, Harlem, NY.

To mourn her home going are her siblings, her sisters and brothers:  Ms. Emma Ruth Davis, Mrs. Cheryl Lynn (Sammie Lee) Williams, Mrs. Beverly Ann Gregg (Timothy),  Ms. Cynthia Diane Washington,  Mrs. Tania W. (Herbert) Smalls, and Mr. Ernest I. Washington, Jr., all of Blackville, South Carolina and Mr. Gerald  (Elizabeth) Washington of California; (4) Aunts: Ms. Joan Hayes of Orangeburg, South Carolina, Ms. Dorothy Washington of Estill, South Carolina, Ms. Gloria Washington of Blackville, South Carolina, and Ms. Dorothy Shepherd of Augusta, Georgia; (1) Uncle, Deacon Dan Price of Barnwell, South Carolina; Her sisters-in-law, Ethel Mae Washington of Blackville, South Carolina; Lillie Mae Hughes (Rev. Floyd), Ernest Reed (Deborah), Hattie Powers (Kenneth) and Jannie Reed; Her god children: William Campbell, Tiffany Smith, Jacquan Smith, and Jamika Smith; A very special friend/cousin, sister girl Nancy Green-Burry and Eldora Green; As well as her Harlem New York Family.
