On Tuesday, February 25, 2020, our beloved Pastor Aiken R. Ruth, Sr. welcomed the summon of his Heavenly Father to rest.  As he transitioned, he was surrounded in the home by his loving family.  Born on September 15, 1924 in Hampton County, South Carolina, he was a son of the late Sidney B. White and Pearl R. Freeman. 

Pastor Aiken R. Ruth, Sr. was educated in the public schools of Hampton County, South Carolina.  He enlisted into the United States Navy and served his country during World War II, being honorably discharged after service. 

At an early age, he became a baptized member of Bethlehem Missionary Baptist Church of Hampton, South Carolina.  In 1970, Pastor Aiken R. Ruth, Sr. was called into ministry.  Subsequently, he became ordained by the Nazarene Baptist Association.   After forty-eight years of preaching and teaching the gospel, he retired.  Pastor Ruth served five churches as shepherd: Nazarene Baptist Church, Fairfax, South Carolina, Zion Fair Baptist Church, Camp Branch Community of Varnville, South Carolina, Mt. Hope Baptist Church, Martin, South Carolina, Rose Mary Baptist Church of Barnwell, South Carolina, and St. James Baptist Church, Barton Community of Allendale, South Carolina.  In addition to pastoring God’s people, he was the entrepreneur of Ruth’s Wardrobe II of Hampton, South Carolina. 

He was united in marriage to the late Mrs. Gladys Ruth, who preceded him in death.  Also preceding him in death was a son, Nathaniel Ruth. 

Loving memories will be cherished by his children: Pearly M. Johnson, Hettie M. (R. C.) Dobson, and Mary M. (Larry)  Orr, all of Varnville, South Carolina, Eddie L. (Thanayi) Ruth, Sidney B. Ruth, and Aiken R. Ruth, Jr., all of Harrisburg, Pennsylvania,  Aiken A. Ruth, Shirley (Marion) Carter, and Patricia A. Graham, all of York, Pennsylvania, Elester L. (Laquinta-Sumpter) Ruth of Huntsville, Alabama, Ronald E. (Pauline-Mike) Washington of Columbia, South Carolina, and a grand born and reared in the home, Renee L. Ruth of Augusta, Georgia; (47) Grandchildren; (82) Great grandchildren; (22) Great great grandchildren; A host of special cousins: Christine Alston, Willie Priester, Lawrence Priester, Mary Priester, Elizabeth Green, Yvonne Deloach, Teresa “Curly” Singletary, and Magine Moore; Niece by marriage, Eva Mae Macintosh; A host of friends whom he referred to as “family”.  And lastly, a special thank you to Jeanette and George for such great care to our beloved father. They were very dear and near to his heart.
