George Edward Smalls, III, affectionately known as “Bubba” was born September 19, 1949 to the late George Smalls, Jr. and Martha Salley Smalls.  He was called to rest from his earthly home on Wednesday, April 29, 2020.

George attended the public schools of Jacksonville, Florida and furthered his education at Denmark Technical College, Denmark, SC.  He was a member of City of Refuge Ministries of Denmark, SC.

He was married to the late Peggy Jamison Smalls; and, from that union two children were born, Eartha and Chris.

He was gainfully employed by Ducane Heating and Air Conditioning of Blackville, SC from which he retired after twenty-five (25) years and Neeley Appliance Company of Denmark, SC.

George was loved by all who knew him.  He exhibited a humble spirit who loved people.  This was parallel to his love for fast cars, playing pool, racing, and hanging out with his “partners”, also known as his friends.  He was called many names: Bubba, Uncle George, Big Smalls, and his racing name of The Great Kabuki.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Peggy and his parents.

To celebrate and cherish his memories are: his daughter, Eartha Maniqault (Socrates) of Denmark, SC; his son, Christopher Smalls (Tisha) of Columbia, SC; five grandchildren: Demetric Smalls, Tawanda Maniqault,  Crystal Maniqault, Camren Smalls,  and Camille Smalls; one great grandchild, Alaina Smalls; his sisters: Luemisher James (Freddie) of Atlanta, GA, Emma Buckers (Lemmie) of Jacksonville, FLA, and Germaine Corbitt (Charles) of Charleston, SC; a brother, Johnnie E. Smalls of Blackville, SC;  Aunts: Janice Salley of New York City, NY, Mamie Salley of Fort Lauderdale, FLA,  Laura Smalls of Denmark, SC and a devoted uncle and aunt, Felories and Ruth Small of Denmark, SC; a sister-in-law, Evola Ryans of Orangeburg, SC; a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

A special thank you to Luemisher James and Cleveland Felder for being his caregivers for the past five years.
