On Tuesday evening, September 12, 2023, Pastor James Nathaniel Cuttino, Jr. was taken on the wings of an angel, there in Heaven to be at rest. Born April 27, 1958, he was a son of the late Mr. James Cuttino, Sr., and Mrs. Virginia Howard Cuttino. Pastor James Cuttino, Jr. was born and grew up in Manhattan, New York. It was at Harry S. Truman High, Bronx, New York, where he received his secondary education. He was a graduate of the Class of 1975. He relocated to South Carolina in 1987. Thereafter, Pastor James Cuttino, Jr. met his wife, the former Ms. Sarah Mayes. On December 10, 1994, James Nathaniel Cuttino, Jr. and Sarah M. Cuttino were joined in marriage. In the words of Pastor Cuttino, God brought Mrs. Cuttino into his life; and that she was a gift from God. He was a graduate of Erskine Theological Seminary with a dual master’s degree in divinity and arts/education Ministries. A written excerpt from an interview with Pastor James Cuttino, Jr. reads: “God is real. A lot of people don’t believe in God and have doubt”. He continued, “he thanks God for all He has provided and done for him.” He was ordained as a minister of the Gospel of Jesus Christ on May 17, 2000, by the St. Vaughnville Association. He pastored Metropolitan Baptist Church, Newberry, South Carolina before being called in October 2015 to Pastor at Zion Fair Missionary Baptist Church, Varnville, South Carolina. For ten years, Pastor James Nathaniel Cuttino, Jr. was employed by and retired as a Senior Chaplain from Lieber Correctional Institution, Ridgeville, South Carolina. Upon retirement, he continued enjoying the activities that gave him joy: singing, caring for people, and pastoring God’s flock. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two sisters: Joann McNeil and Rutha Mae Cuttino; two brothers: Charles Cuttino and Louis Cuttino; one grandson, Que'Jon Gill and one brother-in-law, Christopher Gamble. To cherish everlasting memories are his wife of the home, Mrs. Sarah M. Cuttino; His children: Devin Mayes of Greenville South Carolina, Alexis (Stacey) Cuttino-Bolton, and Natalie Cuttino both of Lexington, South Carolina, James Cuttino, III of Columbia, South Carolina, Geneva Cuttino of Lexington, South Carolina and Peyton Cuttino of Ladson, South Carolina; Grandchildren: Jasmine & Corey Meggett both of Lexington, South Carolina, Jamari Frazier of Lexington, South Carolina, Isaiah Grant, Aliyah Grant, Joshua Grant, and Elijah Grant, all of Greenville, South Carolina, Brooklynn Bolton and Ba'Sile Cuttino, both of Lexington, South Carolina, and James Cuttino, IV of Irmo, South Carolina; Great grandchildren: Messiah Night of Lexington, South Carolina, Roman Meggett of Eloree, South Carolina; One aunt, Ms. Queen Frasier of Baltimore, Maryland; Two nephews: Xavier Cuttino of Richmond, Virginia and Nathan (Maricela) Mayes of Crossville, South Carolina; three brothers-in-law: Willis Mayes, III of Silverstreet, South Carolina, Porterfield (Norma) Mayes of Newberry, South Carolina and Nathaniel Mayes of Silverstreet, South Carolina; three sisters-in-law: Debra Mayes-Gamble of Atlanta, Georgia/Crosshill, South Carolina, Shirley (Charles) Johnson of Irmo, South Carolina, and Delores (Leonard) Mayes-Pitts of Crosshill, South Carolina; A host of nieces; other relatives; church family members; and friends.
