The Life and Legacy of
Minister Jay Lee Jenkins
Minister Jay Lee Jenkins, son of the late Mr. Gettie Jenkins, Sr., and Mrs. Lottie Bell Morris Jenkins, was born May 1, 1932, in Varnville, South Carolina. He went home to be with the Lord on Saturday, October 21, 2023, at Ralph H. Johnson Veterans Administration Medical Center, Charleston, South Carolina.

He was educated in the Hampton County Public School System. At an early age, he joined Anna Laurel Baptist Church located in Early Branch, South Carolina under the pastorate of the late Reverend Bowers of Brunson, South Carolina. Seeking a greater revelation of Christ, Minister Jenkins joined Christ Church Deliverance Temple, Varnville, South Carolina under the leadership of the late Pastor Jerome Black of Savannah, Georgia. After being found called of Christ to be a gospel messenger, Minister Jay Lee Jenkins became ordained as a minister by Elder Charles Wright of Varnville, South Carolina. Along with Elder Charles Wright, Minister Jay Lee Jenkins fulfilled his calling by winning souls to Christ.

Minister Jay Lee Jenkins enlisted, during the Korean War, in the United States Army on April 13, 1953. He earned several commendations and medals to include the National Defense Service Medal, the Korean Service Medal, and the United Nations Service Medal.

His joy was cooking the favorite meals of his nieces and nephews. A particular dish they enjoyed was rutabaga and smoked neck bones!

Preceding him in death in addition to his parents were two brothers, and two sisters.

To mourn the home going yet cherish his memories are  four (4) nieces and one (1) nephew: Barbara Gilbert and Joann (Terrance) Greene, all of Varnville, South Carolina, Clarissa (Gary) Geddis of Hampton, South Carolina, Kimberly (Deondra) Williams of Kingsland, Georgia, and Alvin (Daphne) Jenkins, Jr. of Kingsland, Georgia; A host of other nieces and nephews; (1) Half-sister, Ms. Nell of Estill, South Carolina; his god-son, Lee Edward Morris of Varnville, South Carolina;  Extended children: Clarence (Ajetta) Harris of Varnville, South Carolina, Erica Warren of Early Branch, South Carolina, Kenneth Harris of Varnville, South Carolina, and Daryl Harris of Arizona; A devoted friend, Missionary Plandy Morris and Minister Bobbie Collins, both of Varnville, South Carolina; Numerous other relatives and loving friends.
