HIS LEGACY

Joseph Harley, affectionately known by his love ones and friends as “Joe” , was born August 21, 1949 in Blackville, Barnwell County, South Carolina to the union of the late Mr. Frank Harley, Sr. and Mrs. Ethel Delve Harley. On Sunday night, October 15, 2023, Joseph “Joe” Harley entered into a peaceful rest at Blackville Rehabilitation Center in Blackville, South Carolina.

He was educated in the public schools of Blackville, SC.  And, at an early age, he surrendered his life to Christ, becoming a baptized member of Mount Zion Baptist Church, Lees, South Carolina.  Later in life, he moved his membership to Tabernacle Baptist Church, Blackville, South Carolina, where he was a faithful door keeper in the house of the Lord until his health declined. He was also a member of Brickyard Masonic Lodge #55.

He was formerly employed  at Blackville-Hilda Public Schools, Augusta Fiberglass, and The Blackville Arcade. He remained employed until the decline of health. 

He was preceded in death by: his beloved parents: Frank, Sr. and Ethel D. Harley; (6) brothers: Mr. Frank Harley, Jr., Mr. Nathaniel Johnson, Mr. Frank Harley, Jr. I., Mr. Frank Harley, Jr. II., Mr. James “Bo” Harley, Sr. and Mr. Willie Harley; and (4) sisters: Mrs. Katherine Harley Sanders, Mrs. Evelyn Harley Jones, Mrs. Clary Ella Harley Odom and Ms. Ethel Mae Harley.

Those left behind to cherish fond memories are: (1) loving and devoted brother: Deacon William Harley (Elouise) of Blackville, South Carolina; (2) wonderful sisters: Ms. Hattie Harley of Blackville, South Carolina and Mrs. Dorothy H. Ray of New York City, New York; (2) sisters-in-law: Mrs. Remell J. Harley of Blackville, South Carolina Mrs. Dorothy Harley of Atlanta, Georgia; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and loving friends who will miss him dearly.
