Ms. Ethel Mae Mingo Gothie was born to the late Charlie & Mary Glover Mingo on May 17, 1925. She was called on to her heavenly reward on Thursday, May 28, 2015, after a lengthy battle with Alzheimer’s disease.
At an early age, she joined Rizer Chapel UMC, where she was a faithful servant until her health failed. In addition to being a church member, she was also a member of the Senior Choir, served as President of the Missionary Board, and was the Mother of the Church.
Affectionately known as “Gramps”, she was absolutely loved by everyone. We believe that hospitality was her spiritual gift. She was well known for her nurturing and caring spirit to many. If you were ever in need of a meal and a place to lay your head, she would always have her door open. She seemed to have an open door policy and never would turn anyone away.
She was united in marriage to the late Brooker T. Gothie.
Gramps was preceded in death by her husband, Brooker T. Gothie; her siblings: John Wesley Mingo, Merlow Mingo, Izola Haynes, Tossie Bell Folk, Dorkis Henderson, Reather Rivers, and Amanda Grayson; a son-in-law, Leon Williams, and stepson, Stewart Mitchell.
Those left to cherish her endearing memories are her daughters: Annie M. Gothie of Brooklyn, NY, Geneva Gothie of Ehrhardt, SC; Janice L. Dunn (Charles) of Blythe, GA and Marion Williams of Varnville, SC; A daughter-in-law, Yvonne Mitchell of Greensboro, NC; A stepson, Paul Mitchell (Ann) of Greenville, SC; Numerous grandchildren, great grandchildren, and one great-great grandchild; One Sister, Ms. Hazel Smalls of Brooklyn, NY; Two sisters-in-law: Audrey Mingo and Geneva Williams; A host of nieces and nephews; Two cherished Godchildren, Carolyn Odom and Adrian Wright; Other relatives and loving family friends.
