On Tuesday, September 1, 2015, our beloved Walter Leon Williams was called from earth’s toils to reward while at Beaufort Memorial Hospital, Beaufort, South Carolina.  He was born October 6, 1936 to the late Mr. Hammie and Mrs. Ruth Bryant Williams. 

At a young age, Mr. Walter Leon Williams joined Blunt Chapel C.M.E Church, Varnville, South Carolina.  He previously served the body of Christ as church treasurer, member of the Lay Ministry Board,and other capacities when asked. 

Mr. Walter Leon Williams attended the public schools of Hampton County, South Carolina before relocating to New York.  He was a graduate of George Washington High School, Manhattan, New York.  In 1970, Walter earned a Bachelor of Science Degree and in 1972 a Master of Arts Degree, both in English, from Tennessee State University, Nashville, Tennessee.  Always striving for excellence, Mr. Walter Leon Williams, in 1983, earned a double degree: Master of Science Degree (M.S.) and Professional Diploma (P.D.), both in Educational Administration and Supervision from Pace University, New York, New York. 

His enthusiasm to learn was exemplified in teaching middle school students at Harriet Beecher Stowe Intermediate School, New York, New York; Roberto Clemente Intermediate School, New York, New York; and North District Middle School, Varnville, South Carolina.  He taught English, Language Arts, Journalism and Media Arts to the Gifted and Talented, Reading and Writing.

Mr. Walter Leon Williams was a South Carolina and New York certified teacher of English and Reading.  He was the author of an article entitled “Children Are Worth More Than Dollars” which was published in the United Federation of Teachers Newspaper. 

Mr. Walter Leon Williams was considered to be: a decisive leader; an effective individual in facilitating department and school-wide educational and testing activities; and an educator with proven ability in interacting positively with parents, teachers, and students. 

He will be sorely missed by all who knew him. 

To mourn his departure and cherish memories are: (2) Sisters, Ms. Lillian E. Williams of Varnville, South Carolina, and Mrs. Dorothy Keene of Orlando Florida; (2) Brothers-in-law: Mr. Milton Clark of Portsmouth, Virginia, and Mr. Grady Keene of Orlando, Florida; A host of devoted nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
