Brandi Lashell Rakes went to be with the Lord on Friday, November 07, 2014. 

Brandi Lashell Rakes was born on July 1, 1976 in York, PA, to Reverend Willie N. Rakes and the late Linda Elmore Rakes.   She was preceded in death by her maternal grandparents Mr. and Mrs. George and Naomi Elmore and her paternal grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Rudolph and Henrietta Rakes.  She attended York County Public Schools before transferring to Hampton District One Schools.  Upon graduating from Wade Hampton High School in 1994, Brandi enrolled in Denmark Technical College. 

Brandi enjoyed many days during her childhood at her family’s corner store, Rakes Grocery, located on King Street in York, PA.  She had a beautiful and infectious smile and was loved and respected by those in the communities in which she lived.  Brandi touched many lives and will forever be missed.

Left to cherish her precious memory are her father Reverend Willie N. Rakes and devoted step-mother Ethel B. Rakes of Varnville, SC; two daughters: Lydia Michelle Rakes and Destiny Q. Grant;  two sons:  Demetrius London Rakes and Brandon Jeremiah Nelson; a devoted brother, Brian N. Rakes of York, PA; one step-brother, Dequincy L. Brown of Allendale, SC;  three sisters:  Mary Friend  of York, PA, Monica Rakes of Varnville, SC, and Lacresha Breland of York, PA; one step- sister, Twanda M. Brown of Columbia, SC; a loving and devoted friend, Terrence Carter of York, PA; six aunts: Louise Grant (Clinton) and Irene Glover (Licensed Minister Richard),all of Varnville, SC, Vanessa Greene (Greg) of Ridgeland, SC, Bernice Simmons of Harleyville, SC, Beatrice Johnson of Walterboro, SC, and Jennifer Rakes of Summerville, SC; three uncles: Vern Elmore (Barbara Jean) of York, PA, Hector Rakes of Greer, SC, and Douglas Elmore of Harleyville, SC; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
