On Friday, December 23, 2016, Mr. Roosevelt Johnson, Sr. was called from labor to reward at Pruitt-Health, Estill, South Carolina.  He was born January 10, 1935 to Mr. Chan Johnson and Mrs. Addie Timms Johnson.  Mr. Johnson was one of nine children born to this union.

Mr. Roosevelt Johnson, Jr. was educated in the public schools of Hampton County, South Carolina. He was gainfully employed as a saw mill operator for various logging industries. Gardening was a special joy to Mr. Johnson.

At an early age, Mr. Roosevelt Johnson,  Sr. became a baptized member of Jerusalem Baptist Church, Cummings Community of Early Branch, South Carolina.  He served the body of Christ as church sexton for many years.

He was married for fifty-nine (59) years to the former Ms. Ethel Lee Williams.  This union was blessed with three children.  One preceded him in death, Roosevelt Johnson, Jr.

In addition to his parents and son, seven siblings have preceded him in death: Jeffrey Johnson, Lyndburg Johnson, Joseph Johnson, Jack and Thomas Johnson, Geneva Robinson and Jessie Mae Nealy.

To remember him and continue his legacy are his loving wife, Ms. Ethel Lee Johnson of the home; One son, Mr. Wendell (Jolanda) Johnson of Fairfax, South Carolina; One daughter, Ms. Brenda Lee of Williston, South Carolina; One sister, Bessie Mae Johnson of New York, New York; Three grandchildren:  Erica (Christopher) Simmons of Windsor, South Carolina, Robert (Beverly) Lee, Jr. of Blackville, South Carolina and Wendell Jahmal Johnson, Jr. of Varnville, South Carolina; Four great grands: Shamar, Robert Lee, III, Megan and Kristen; Three sisters-in-law: Tescora Williams of the Camp Branch Community of Varnville, South Carolina, Evelena (Lester) Terry of Syracuse, New York and Dollie Williams of Greensboro, North Carolina; Two aunts: Margaret (Adam) Major of Varnville, South Carolina and Ms. Emma Wright of Varnville, South Carolina; A host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
