Brother Joseph Jackson, Sr. was born in Hampton County, South Carolina on December 9, 1948 to the late John Jackson, Sr. and Ruth Jackson. He went home to be with the Lord Thursday, February 23, 2017 at Hampton Regional Medical Center, Varnville, South Carolina.
His friends and family affectionately called him “Joe”. He was educated in the Hampton County School System. At an early age, Joe became a member of Goodwill Baptist Church, Estill, South Carolina. He was gainfully employed by and retired from Elliot Sawmill, Estill, South Carolina. He had worked there for twenty-eight years.
Joe was a dedicated husband, father, grandfather, and friend. Known for his big heart, he shared from his garden and/or his genuine conversations.
Joe was joined in Holy Matrimony on September 3, 1975 to the former Ms. Shirley Ann Atkins. Six children were born to this union. One son, Joseph Jackson, Jr. preceded him in death.
In addition to his parents and son, one sister: Mrs. Shirley Branshaw, and one brother: John Jackson, Jr. preceded him in death.
He leaves to cherish fond memories his loving wife, Shirley Ann Jackson of Furman, South Carolina; (4) Daughters: Sandra Jackson of Hardeeville, South Carolina, Sakeria (Bernard) Cooper and Tiesha Jackson, all of Furman, South Carolina, and Cherlene (Richard) Hutchinson of Estill, South Carolina; (1) Son, Jermaine Jackson of Furman, South Carolina; A special granddaughter reared for nineteen years in the home, Ty-Kia Jackson; (14) Grandchildren; (1) granddaughter to be; (3) Brothers: Curtis Lee (Cheryl) Jackson of Luray, South Carolina, Lawrence Jackson of Scotia, South Carolina, and William Jackson of Hampton, South Carolina; (3) Sisters: Ella Mae Jackson of Savannah, Georgia, Mary (Willie) Jones of Stormville, New York, and Eloise (Richard) Maner of Allendale, South Carolina; (2) Sisters-in-law: Daisy Drayton of Charlotte, North Carolina and Janie (Sam) Housey of Tarboro, South Carolina; (2) Brothers-in-law: Willie Atkins and William (Vertina) Atkins, both of Charlotte, North Carolina; A host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
