Sister Chandra Denise Cohen, daughter of the late Mr. J.A. Spruill and Mrs. Georgia Spruill, was born September 10, 1957 in Greenwood County. She departed this life Friday, June 16, 2017 at her residence in Aiken, South Carolina.
She graduated from the public schools of Hampton County, South Carolina (Wade Hampton High School Class of 1975) and furthered her education at the University of South Carolina (Salkehatchie, Aiken, and Columbia campuses).
Mrs. Cohen joined Bethlehem Baptist Church at a very early age.
In 1982, she married Mr. Leroy Cohen; and to this union, two children were born: Cherzeen and Charlemaine Cohen. She had been employed as a substitute teacher and homemaker, which she loved and enjoyed.
She was preceded in death by (3) Sisters-in-law: Mrs. Eloise Kelly, Mrs. Emma Spruill, and Mrs. Florence Cohen Nichols.
Survivors include her husband, Mr. Leroy Cohen of Aiken, South Carolina; (2) Daughters: Ms. Cherzeen Cohen and Mrs. Charlemaine (Mr. Isa) Cohen; (1) Brother, Mr. James (Mrs. Marilyn) Spruill, Jr. of Hampton, South Carolina; (1) Sister, Ms. Kathleen Spruill of Miami, Florida; (2) Grandchildren: Elijah Akins and Isa Gooden, Jr.; (3) Sisters-in-law: Ms. Rosa Allen of Richmond, Virginia, Mrs. Louise (Mr. Donald) Conner of Varnville, South Carolina, and Mrs. Elizabeth Cohen of Richmond, Virginia; (3) Brothers-in-law: Bishop James Louis (Minister Willa Mae) Cohen of Hampton, South Carolina; Deacon Larry (Mrs. Joyce) Cohen of Varnville, South Carolina; and Mr. Rufus T. (Mrs. Tanya) Cohen of Grand Prairie, Texas; (2) Aunts: Mrs. Tuwretha White of Ninety-Six, South Carolina, and Mrs. Mary Windley of Smithfield, North Carolina; A host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
