Lisa Shawntae Hicks quietly slipped into eternal peace on Sunday, September 24, 2017, surrounded by family and friends at John Hopkins Hospital, Baltimore, Maryland. Lisa was born February 22, 1971 in Barnwell, South Carolina to Carolyn Hicks and Ernest Washington, Jr.
In the year of 1981, Lisa joined Macedonia Baptist Church, Blackville, South Carolina. She served the body of Christ participating in the Macedonia Sunbeam Choir, the Junior Usher Board, the Junior Missionary Society, and Sunday school.
Lisa was a 1989 graduate of Blackville-Hilda High School, Blackville, South Carolina. At the age of eighteen, Lisa moved to Maryland. She flourished under the love and guidance of her late Uncle LoVant Hicks, Jr. and Aunt Connie McClain.
Lisa continued in her quest for service to Christ in Maryland, becoming a member of Sharon Bible Fellowship Church. She was a strong woman of great faith and known for her unique spirit. She inspired others in her walk in Christ. As a leader in the Youth and Family Ministry and Radical Dancers for Christ (RD4C) at Sharon Bible Fellowship Church for over fifteen years, she had a passion for mentoring young girls. Lisa influenced the lives of many young girls, and was instrumental in helping many of them transition into successful women.
She furthered her education at the University of Maryland where she, while working, in 1995 earned her Bachelor of Science Degree in Financing. Lisa was gainfully employed as Payroll Coordinator for the Washington's Redskins Football League for approximately four years.
She continued in the workforce combining her unmatched passion for those with intellectual disabilities and finance in her role as the Director of Financial Management at the Special Olympics International in 2000. Lisa was employed there for seventeen years.
Lisa was a creative visionary who flourished when decorating and event planning. She decorated for many weddings, birthdays, and other special occasions, bringing life to each event with her special touch and flare.
Preceding her in death were her paternal grandparents: Ernest Washington, Sr. and Maggie Washington; and her maternal grandparents: Izell Ephriam, Sr. and Zelma Ephriam.
To cherish her memories are: her mother, Carolyn Hicks and father, Ernest Washington, Jr., both of Blackville, South Carolina; Six brothers: Jeffrey Hicks (Gloria) of Madison, Alabama, Kirk Hicks, Sr. (LaShanda) of North Charleston, South Carolina, Eddie Washington (Sonya), Ernest Washington, III (Amanda), all of Blackville, South Carolina, Carlos Washington and Anthony Washington, both of Barnwell, South Carolina; One sister, Doreather Washington of Blackville, South Carolina; A devoted aunt, Constance McClain; A host of Aunts and Uncles; One niece, Madison Hicks; two nephews: Coby Hicks and Kirk Hicks, Jr.; Three godsons: Dayvon Broady, Jayden Walls, and Jordan Walls; Other relatives and caring friends.
