Trust in the Lord with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding.  In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths.”    Proverbs 3: 5-6

Deacon Walter Samuel Ruth, Sr. was born October 7, 1945 in Hampton County, SC to Ms. Ella Jane Ruth Strickland and Mr. Wallace, both preceded him in death.

On Sunday morning, October 1, 2017, God in his infinite wisdom, said to Deacon Walter Samuel Ruth, Sr.,  “Well done my good and faithful servant.  You have labored over many things and fought the good fight, come now and take your rest.”

Walter was joined in holy matrimony on April 26, 1964 to the former Sheila Ann Goff.  With this union, five children were born.  One son, Eric Jerome Ruth, preceded him in death.

Walter received a diploma from State High School, Estill, SC on May 25, 1971.  He was a man of great faith to his God and his church.  He was a praying man who prayed daily for family as well as friends.  Walter was also faithful to the weekly noon day prayer and the men’s prayer on 1st Saturdays at St. John Holiness Church, Nixville, SC.  He loved Sunday School, teaching and learning about the great works of God.  His dedication to Greater Rock of Ages Holiness Church pushed him to maintain the well-manicured church lawn that he completed weekly with pride and joy.

Dedicated to his beautiful memories are a loving and devoted family:  His wife of fifty-three  years, Pastor Sheila Ann Ruth; One daughter, Alma Williams; Three sons: Walter Samuel (Rosalind) Ruth, Jr., Ricky Tyron (Karen) Ruth, and Anthony Cornell (Faye) Ruth.  One sister, Gertie Mae (Carlson) Conell; One brother-in-law, Rufus (Lillian) Busby, Jr.; Six sisters: Bernice Ellis, Eva Cohen, Geneva Green, Gloria Green, Elsie Green, and Belinda Green; Four brothers:  Johnny Green, Willie Green, Jr., Ernest Green, and Donald Green;  Eight grandchildren;  Eleven great grandchildren;  Special cousins: Geneva Licorish, Albertha Ruth, Sallie Mae Walls and Jeanette Steverson;  Special friends: Elder Prince Pinckney, Orin Gordon, Randy Gordon, Lillie Mae Clark and Vivian Holmes; along with a host of devoted nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
