Mr. James Lee Smith, the beloved son of the late Mr. Jasper Smith, Sr., and Mrs. Elouise Williams Smith was born April 1, 1952 in Varnville, Hampton County, SC. He was reared by his paternal grandmother, the late Mrs. Ivory Smith. He departed from this earthly shore on Tuesday, July 4, 2017 at his residence in Varnville, South Carolina. As his family, we mourn his departure; but we celebrate his home going.
At an early age, Mr. James Lee Smith confessed Christ as Lord and Savior and became a baptized member of Samaritan Baptist Church, Varnville, SC. At Samaritan, he served the church as a member of the Samaritan Male Chorus, and President of the Samaritan Church Trustee Board. Other civic organizations included: Co-founder of the GUY (Gentlemen United to Save Our Youth) Club, of Varnville, South Carolina and a member of the Hampton County Martin Luther King Steering Committee.
Mr. James Lee Smith, affectionately called and known as “Cowboy”, was educated in the public schools of Hampton County, SC. He was a graduate of the former North District Training School, Varnville, South Carolina.
On February 28, 1974, he married the love of his life, the former Ms. Elizabeth Capers Smith. While enjoying being a family man, he particularly enjoyed spending time with the grandchildren, fishing, and barbequing.
He was employed by Valmont Company, Estill, South Carolina as a machine operator.
Mr. Smith is preceded in death, in addition to his parents, by his sister, Mrs. Ella Jean Smith Mole.

Smith of Varnville, South Carolina, Ms. Faye Dublin of Virginia Beach, Virginia, Ms. Felecia Holmes of Barnwell, South Carolina, and Mrs. Sophia (Rodrick) Loadoholt of Varnville, South Carolina; (17) Grandchildren; (4) Great grandchildren; (1) Brother, Mr. Jasper Smith, Jr. of Irvington, New Jersey; (2) Sisters: Mrs. Sandra Smith Rivers of Irvington, New Jersey, and Ms. Emily T. Smith of Charlotte, North Carolina; An uncle, Mr. Eugene Jenkins, Sr. of Varnville, South Carolina; (1) Sister-in-law, Ms. Martha Capers of Varnville, South Carolina; (3) Brothers-in-law: Mr. James Capers (known as “lightning bug” who was devoted and a caregiver) of Varnville, South Carolina, Mr. Elijah (Minnie Lee) Capers of Hephzibah, Georgia, and Mr. Timothy Capers of Whiteville, North Carolina; A host of nieces and nephews, which includes three who were special: Tiffany A. Mole of Hampton, Delric D. and Ashley Inabinett, both of Wilmington, North Carolina; Other relatives and friends.
