Dorothy Hill was born on September 24, 1942 to Agnes Hill and the late Deacon Ernest McKinley Hill. She was called home to be with the Lord on May 10, 2017 at her residence in the Camp Branch Community of Varnville, South Carolina.
Dorothy grew up in Varnville, South Carolina and was educated in the public schools of Hampton County, South Carolina. She graduated from the former North District Training School on May 29, 1962.
She and the family relocated to New Jersey where she lived for many years, until returning to her roots in South Carolina. Upon Dorothy’s return, she held many jobs. She retired from the Hampton County Sheriff’s Department in 1998 as a dietician.
Dorothy was a God fearing Christian woman who loved the Lord. She was a dedicated member of Antioch Christian Church, Disciples of Christ, Varnville, South Carolina. She served the body of Christ singing on the Mass Choir and Senior Choir as well as a member of the Kitchen Aide Ministry. She remained a faithful member until she became a full-time caregiver for her mother.
Although she had no biological children, she was a mother to many, especially her nieces and nephews. Dorothy was affectionately called Aunt Dot. She loved to cook and was especially known for her jelly stack cake.
She will be joyfully missed.
Dorothy was preceded in death by her dearest father, Deacon Ernest Hill; her brothers: Ivan, Rodell and Clyde Hill; her sister, Betty Ruth Hill Miller.
She leaves to cherish fond memories her loving mother, Agnes Hill of Varnville, South Carolina; Her caring brother, Douglas Hill of Bushkill, Pennsylvania; (1) Sister-in-law, Annie Hill of Greensboro, North Carolina; (1) Aunt, Stella Mae Doctor of Beaufort, South Carolina; Nieces, Nephews, Cousins and Friends; (3) Lifetime sisters-in-law: Carol Jackson, Janice Harris and Sheila Johnson.
