Sister Flossie Mae Buckner Moore began her life journey on October 3, 1932. She was one of two siblings born to Randolph Buckner and the late Louise Capers Buckner.
She was educated in the public schools of Dorchester County, South Carolina. At an early age, Flossie joined Toby United Methodist Church, Islandton, South Carolina. Upon relocating to New York, she joined The Church of Our Lord under the leadership of Evangelist Hallie Mae Joshua and later became a member of Gospel Light C.O.L.J.C., both located in Brooklyn, New York. Sister Moore joined St. John Baptist Church upon her return to South Carolina. At St. John Baptist Church, she was a faithful member of the Women’s Ministry, The Missionary Society, the Kitchen Aide Committee, the Gospel and Senior Choir. She enjoyed praising God through songs and playing the tambourine.
Flossie was united in marriage to the late Herbert Lee Moore, Sr. on June 13, 1953. To this union of fifty-six years, God blessed them with six children.
Flossie was employed part-time for various businesses; however, her passion was being at home with her children. She never met a stranger and greeted everyone with her infectious smile. It was never unusual for her to strike up a conversation with anyone on any aisle at the grocer. Flossie enjoyed caring for her grandchildren, preparing meals, and baking for her family and friends. She was compassionate, loving and caring to one and all.
Her husband, Herbert, Sr., preceded her in death on April 11, 2010. Also preceding her in death were (4) brothers-in-law: John Raymond, Lewis and Jessie Moore, and Alfonzo Harrison; and (2) sisters-in-law: Sarah Holmes and Margie Romey.
