God saw fit to call our beloved Deaconess Elizabeth Gordon Reid on Saturday, December 24, 2016 at Hampton Regional Medical Center, Varnville, South Carolina.  “Liz”, as she was affectionately called, was born April 26, 1958 to the late Mr. James Gordon, Sr. and Mrs. Wille Mae Erwin Gordon.  She was reared and nurtured by her adoptive parents, her uncle, Mr. Willie Lee (Josephine) Gordon and the late Mrs. Alfreda Gordon.

Liz grew up in New Orleans, Louisiana and was educated in the McDonald School System; she attended Southern University of New Orleans.

At an early age, she professed Christ and became a member of Mt. Pleasant A.M.E. Church, Scotia, South Carolina.  Upon relocation to South Carolina, she met and married the love of her life and soul mate, Deacon Johnny Eugene Reid.  The Lord blessed their marriage with thirty-four (34) years.  Her love and joy were being a homemaker and caregiver for her grandchildren.

Deaconess Elizabeth Gordon Reid was a baptized member of Harmonia Missionary Baptist Church, Varnville, South Carolina.  She served the body of Christ as a member of the Deaconess Board, member of the Missionary Society, and Pulpit Aide Committee.  As long as she was able to, “Liz” would do anything asked of her!  Her sense of humor and cooperation will be forever remembered by those who knew her.

In addition to her parents, one brother and one nephew preceded her in death, Mr. Gary Michael Gordon and Mr. Aaron Morris, respectively.

To cherish fond memories are her husband, Deacon Johnny Eugene Reid of the home; (4) Children: Minister Tanya Gordon-McCree of Lancaster, South Carolina, Clifford Washington of Varnville, South Carolina, Tyra Gordon of Varnville, South Carolina and Inetta (Shemaine)  Williams of Varnville, South Carolina; (6) Grandchildren: Tyresse, Shadai, Kia, Gabrielle, Malachi, and Cherish; Her brother and sisters: Mr. James ( fiancée Frankie) Gordon, Jr. of Stokes Bluff Landing, South Carolina, Mrs. Mary Alice Morris of Varnville, South Carolina, and Mrs. Daphanne Poole of New Orleans;      (5) Aunts: Mrs. Marion (Pastor William) Gourdine of Varnville, South Carolina, Ms. Clara Newton of Gifford, South Carolina, Ms. Maryland Gray of Varnville, South Carolina, Mrs. Daisy (John) Gordon of Estill, South Carolina and Ms. Carrie Gourdine of North Carolina;  (2) Uncles: Mr. Johnny Erwin of Shirley, South Carolina and Pastor Henry (Rose) Gordon of Beaufort, South Carolina; (2) Sisters-in-law: Ms. Lovely Mae Reid and Ms. Bobbie Jean Reid, both of Varnville, South Carolina; (3) Brothers-in-law: Mr. Thomas Reid of Yemassee, South Carolina, Mr. Lazarus Reid of Early Branch, South Carolina and Mr. LeAndrew (Cheryl)  Reid of Varnville, South Carolina; Nieces and Nephews: Jamie (Melinda), Jeff (Kim), Justin (Micah), Taiwanna, Marlena, Clifton, Jr., and Stephan; A host of great nieces, great nephews, cousins and many loving friends, which includes special friends LouVerta Henderson, LaSonya Williams, Nora Griffin and Brenda Faye Gordon.
