Mother Carrie Mae Ruth Priester, 103, daughter of the late Mr. Jason and Mrs. Mary Ruth, was born November 16, 1912, in Hampton County, South Carolina. She was called home to be with the Lord on Friday, May 27, 2016 while at Hampton Regional Medical Center, Varnville, South Carolina.
At a young age, Mother Carrie Mae Priester surrendered her life and will to the Lord and became a baptized member of Antioch Christian Church, Disciples of Christ of Varnville, South Carolina. Serving the body of Christ faithfully, she became a member of the church Adult Choir, Missionary Board and the church Deaconess Board. Whenever songs were sung, Mother Priester demonstrated her joy in the Lord, joyfully clapping her hands to the songs being sung! She was also affiliated with the Sons and Daughters of Job for over sixty-five (65) years. She was truly a virtuous woman.
On April 10, 1932, she united in Holy Matrimony to the late Deacon Lawrence Priester, Sr.; to this union were born seven (7) children. Two children preceded her in death: Gertrude and Marion Priester.
Mother Priester was known and loved by many people. The impressions she made on the life of others will be remembered for many, many years to come.
Sacrifices of her love will be cherished and remembered by her five children: Elder Lawrence (Evangelist Eartha) Priester, Jr. of Beaufort, South Carolina, Ms. Elizabeth Green of Cleveland, Ohio, Ms. Mary Williams, Ms. Christine Alston, and Mr. Willie Priester, all of Varnville, South Carolina; (3) Grandchildren reared in the home: Ms. Lorrie Lingard, Karen Williams, and James (Shahida) Lingard; (14) Grandchildren; (29) Great grandchildren; (22) Great great grandchildren; (3) Great great great grandchildren; (2) Special nephews: Reverend Aiken Ruth, who was close and dear, and Mr. George Washington, who visited regularly; A host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and caring friends (which includes three special friends: Ms. Minnie Myers, a close neighbor and visitor; Mrs. Lorine Moore, who telephoned every week; and, Ms. Charlotte Williams, a caregiver).
