Brother Senia Lee Smith, 96, on Saturday, September 17, 2016 at 9:30 a.m. received the summon of his Heavenly Father from labor to rest, at the residence of his daughter, Alma Moore. He was born December 10, 1919 to the late Mr. Ladson Smith and Mrs. Gertrude Buckner Smith. Brother Smith was the first of seven children born to this union.
He was educated in the public schools of Colleton County, South Carolina.
At the age of twenty-six (26), he married the former Ms. Lydia Monroe in March, 1940. Shortly thereafter, their first child, Alma was born. The Lord blessed them with eight other children.
Brother Senia Lee Smith was a hard worker: a farmer and truck driver who drove for various saw mills. A story he loved to tell was how he climbed trees! He did whatever he had to do to provide for his family.
Surrendering his life to the sovereignty of the Lord, Brother Senia Lee Smith joined his beloved St. John Missionary Baptist Church, Varnvile, South Carolina. At St. John, he served the body of Christ on the choir. He loved to keep the church area and cemetery clean! To him, this was his mission. Brother Senia Lee Smith was a great man of God who believed in faith and prayer.
Preceding him in death are: (1) son, Isaiah Smith and (1) daughter, Bernice Smith. Also preceding him are: (2) brothers: Ernest Smith and Ben Smith and two sisters, Dora Mae Jenkins and Eva Ree Mitchell.
To cherish his memories are his family: (3) Daughters, Alma Moore of Hampton, South Carolina, Ethel King of Fayetteville, North Carolina, and Elouise Brown of Brooklyn, New York; (3) Sons: Ralph Smith (Gloria) of Islandton, South Carolina, Charles Smith of Ehrhardt, South Carolina and Roger Smith (Janice) of Brunson, South Carolina; (1) Brother: Clinton Smith (Mary) of Islandton, South Carolina; (1) Sister, Francis Rivers of Hampton, South Carolina; A host of grandchildren, great grandchildren, great great grandchildren, nieces and nephews; Other relatives and friends.
Daddy said to us: “Everybody in Hampton and Colleton are related to me”.
