Ms. Vernese Cope Murdaugh was born in Hampton County, South Carolina on April 12, 1930 to the late Elder Dock Cope and Mrs. Eva Platts Cope. She was called to eternal rest Saturday, May 11, 2013 at her residence in Hampton, South Carolina.
Ms. Murdaugh was educated in the public schools of Hampton County and was married to the late Willie L. Murdaugh, Sr. To this union, five children were born, two of whom preceded her in death: Paul Howard Murdaugh and Willie "Bill” Murdaugh, Jr.
"Vern", as she was affectionately called, joined Cherry Gove Christian Church at an early age where she served in many capacities, remaining faithful until her death.
An employee of the former Estill Manufacturing Company, she worked as a seamstress for more than twenty eight (28) years.
She leaves to cherish her memories: One daughter, Gail (Ernest) Cummings of Aiken, South Carolina; Two sons: Larry (Rhonda) Murdaugh of Varnville, South Carolina and Jerome Murdaugh of Hampton, South Carolina; A daughter-in-law, Pearline Murdaugh; Two sisters: Sarah Loadholt and Leversia Loadholt, both of Hampton, South Carolina; One brother, Alfred (Chloe) Cope of Brooklyn, New York; A brother-in-law, Holbrook Johnson of Hampton, Virginia; Two sisters-in-law: Veronica Cope of Arizona and Lillian Cope of Savannah, Georgia; 13 Grandchildren; 15 Great grandchildren; A host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
