The Honorable Lee Brown was born October 18, 1954 in Hampton County, South Carolina to the late Mr. Joseph and Mrs. Pearl Maple Wilson Brown. He departed this life Thursday, August 15, 2013 at Beaufort Memorial Hospital, Beaufort, South Carolina.
Lee was a 1974 graduate of Estill High School, Estill, South Carolina. He furthered his education at Denmark Technical College, Denmark, South Carolina, receiving an associate degree in Criminal Justice.
Acknowledging the supremacy of God, Lee, as a young man, became a member of Martin Temple CME Church, Estill, South Carolina. He subsequently rededicated his life to the Lord and became a member of Greater Faith International Ministries of Varnville, South Carolina under the pastorate of Apostle Herbert Brown. He served faithfully until the decline of health; but Lee continued Bible studies on Tuesday evenings at 7:00 P.M. at home with his dedicated Bible Study Group.
On August 11, 1990, Lee met and married the former Loretta Moore. To this union, one child was born.
Lee excelled in his occupation, receiving several awards and notable achievements. To name a few are: Outstanding Citizen Award- Estill Middle School PTA, December, 1996; Salkehatchie Youth Challenge Academy Certificate of Training and World View Mentor Training, May 23, 2002; South Carolina Department of Public Safety Criminal Justice Academy Division, Basic Fingerprint Training, July 12, 1991; Orangeburg Calhoun Technical College and South Carolina Criminal Justice Academy, recognition for completion of course in the areas of Legal Update, Patrol Procedures (April 27, 1992) and Emergency Vehicle Response (July 7, 1992); State of South Carolina Law Enforcement Division – Permit to perform Breath Alcohol Tests, April 28, 1988; and South Carolina Department of Public Safety Criminal Justice Academy Division training for Detective Level I Instructor, June 1990; Lee Brown was elected Sheriff by the citizens of Hampton County for the period of 1998 through 2006. Integrity in office was paramount to Lee. Everyone was treated fairly and at the same time with mercy. This was Lee.
In addition to his parents, a daughter, Rasheen Brown predeceased Lee; a sister, Minnie Pearl O’Banner; (3) brothers: Thomas, Herbert, and Willie Brown.
He will be dearly missed and is survived by his loving and dedicated wife of the home, Loretta Moore-Brown; (3) Sons: Elrick Major (Pineland, SC), Lee Brown, Jr. (Denmark, SC), and Mandrel Brown (Aiken, SC); (3) Daughters: Maresha Brown (Yemassee, SC), Monica Pinckney (Stokes Bluff, SC), and Yulonda (Anthony) Hutchinson of Estill, S.C., (2) Daughters reared as his own: Wondrika Moore (Hampton, SC) and Charlotte (Earnell) Dyches (Spartanburg, SC); A devoted sister, Elizabeth Williams (Estill, SC); (3) Special aunts: Rosa Lee Brown and Deloris Wilson, both of (Estill, SC) and Edith Wilson (Garnett, SC); His mother and father-in-law, Deacon Isaiah (Lorine) Moore of Hampton, SC; (2) Brothers-in-law: Isaiah (Dorothy) Moore of Batesburg-Leesville, SC and Jimmy (Cheryl) O’Banner of Estill, SC; (3) Sisters-in-law: Gail (Terrance) Mack of Sumter, SC, Alicia Jenkins (Varnville, SC) and Ethel Brown (Estill, SC); (2) Special god-mothers: Rena Blake (Estill, SC) and Aletha Jones (Estill, SC); Special nieces: Elaunda Williams, Kimberly O’Banner, Lakisha Williams, Shalette O’Banner, Jenneane O’Banner and Lacey Hagood; Special nephews: Lester Brown, Ryan Brown, Nicolas Jenkins and Leroy Roberts; Special friends: Patricia Brooks, Jvonndra Creech, Marion Green, Henry Lee Smart, Pastor Virgin Johnson, Jr. Apostle Herbert Brown, Clayton Johnson, Thomas Owens, Pastor Lawrence McCarter, Katie Brown, John Ellis, Marvin Fennell, Johnny Shanks, Law Enforcement buddies; Other family members and loving friends.
