On Friday morning December 27, 2013, in the arms of her loving daughter, Elouise Pressey Raysor peacefully departed this life in Hanover, MD. Sis. Raysor was born March 9, 1930, to the late Deacon George Pressey, Sr. and the late Dorothy Hughes Pressey in Barnwell County, SC.
Sis. Raysor united with God and joined the Shrub Branch Missionary Church at the tender age of 8 years old and remained a member there throughout her entire life. Sis. Raysor’s family has been a part of Shrub Branch Missionary Baptist Church for more than 100 years. She absolutely loved Shrub Branch and devoted her life to the church, serving as Church Treasurer, President of the Usher Board, President of the Gospel Choir, a member of the Senior Choir, a member of the Willing Workers Club, and the Missionary Society.
Sis. Raysor was a long time member of the Order of the Eastern Star, Pilgrim Chapter #7 and served as the Treasurer for more than 20 years until her passing. She was just recently honored by the Chapter for being one of its oldest members. Sis. Raysor was also a member of the NAACP, Heroines of Jericho, Union Progress Society, and a host of other community organizations and associations. She attended Blackville Public School in Blackville, SC.
Sis. Raysor’s favorite past times were watching CNN and court TV. She immensely enjoyed talking on the telephone to family and friends and gleefully informed everyone who called her of all current local and world events. She retired from Sunbeam Corporation in Denmark, SC after a 20 year career, and later retired her second career at Ducane Heating Corporation in Blackville, SC.
On November 5, 1949, Sis. Elouise Pressey Raysor married Trustee William Raysor, also fondly known as “Bill”. The couple remained together until death parted them on October 3, 1983. To their union, one daughter was born.
“Weezy” as she was affectionately called by her brother Eugene, had seven siblings that preceded her in death: Arthur, George, Jr., Phenesee, Annette, Curtis, Michael, and Mary.
Left to cherish her memory: One daughter, Sandy Raysor-Taylor of Hanover, MD; One son-in-law, Steven A. Taylor of Hanover, MD; Two sisters: Zelma (Harold) Harvey of Greenville, TX and Josephine Pressey of Islip, NY; Three brothers: Eugene (Nora) Pressey of Greenville, SC; Willie Edward (Sarah) Pressey of Deer Park, NY and Lloyd (Christine) Pressey of Brooklyn, NY; Three other brothers-in-law: Emanuel (Marcella)Raysor of Blackville, SC; Willie (Sade) Razor of Sumter, SC; and Johnnie Bennett of Columbia, SC; A devoted caregiver, Patricia Robinson of Blackville, SC; And a host of other in-laws, nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.
The memory of her pleasant disposition and everlasting smile will continue to rest in the hearts of those who knew her. She will be dearly missed. . .
