“I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith” II Timothy 4:6Rufus Tolbert, Sr. was born in Allendale County, South Carolina on August 2, 1946 to the late Brooker T. Tolbert and the late Freelove Johnson. He received his education in the public schools of Allendale County and was a 1965 graduate of Fairfax Training High School. At an early age, he became a member of St. James Missionary Baptist Church, Luray, SC. After graduation, he relocated to Miami, FL. Years later, he returned home and began working for Kodiak Inc. in Allendale, SC. He retired from Dixie-Narco (now Crane Merchandising) in Williston, SC. Until his health failed him, he was enjoying his retirement years with his family and friends and spending endless hours watching sports. Rufus was predeceased by his parents; one sister: Virginia Williams; and one brother: Franklin “Frank” Tolbert. He leaves to cherish his memory: his wife of 25 years, Carolyn Roberts Tolbert; Two sons: Damon Collins, Sr., Dallas, TX, Rufus Tolbert, Jr., Miami, FL. One stepdaughter Kylah Roberts, Allendale, SC. Three sisters: Rosella Pinkney, Allendale, SC, Estella “Betty” Polite and Mildred Simmons, Fairfax, SC. Seven grandchildren: Damon Collins, Jr, Trenide Williams, Taylor Doe, Raleigh Doe, Janiah Tolbert, Eboni Tolbert, and Faith Tolbert. A dedicated niece, Cassandra Simmons Robinson, Fairfax, SC. Three sisters-in-law; Rosa Roberts, Sylvester, AZ, Betty Tyler (Greg), and Vickie Richardson, Appleton, SC. Five brothers–in-law: Deacon James Williams, Brunson, SC; Willie Roberts, Jackson, SC; James Roberts (Ora); Tyrone Lebron, Allendale, SC; Chris Lebron, Varnville, SC. He also leaves a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
