A Reflection of His Life
Deacon John Henry Campbell, 72, of the Sandridge Community of Varnville, South Carolina died on Tuesday, January 12, 2021 at MUSC, Charleston, South Carolina. He was born January 30, 1948 in Hampton, South Carolina to the late Mr. Matthew Campbell, Jr. and Mrs. Majorie Lingard Campbell.
John was educated in the public schools of Hampton County, South Carolina, the former North District Training School. After leaving North District, Deacon Campbell enlisted in the United States Armed Services. He served in the United States Army until honorably discharged from service.
At an early age, John joined the congregation at Mt. Sinai Missionary Baptist Church, Varnville, South Carolina. He served the body of Christ faithfully as an ordained deacon, member of the Mt. Sinai Male Chorus, Chairman of the Cemetery Committee, and Keeper of the Church, Grounds and Maintenance until his health failed.
He was a self-employed truck driver. John was married to the late Mrs. Christine Dennis Campbell.
In addition to his wife and parents, John was preceded in death by one sister, Mrs. Louise Patterson; and one brother, Mr. Marvin Campbell.
To mourn his home-going are his children: Debra Sullivan of Minneapolis, Minnesota, Robert Barnes of Clemmington, New Jersey, Monique Lee (Lynn) of Brooklyn Park, Minnesota, Mickey Barnes, Sabrina Barnes, and Keith Barnes, all of Varnville, South Carolina; (16) Grandchildren; A host of great grandchildren; His siblings: Evangelist Ella Woods of Warner Robbins, Georgia, Edith Campbell of Brooklyn, New York, Clara Campbell of Yemassee, South Carolina, Janie Duckett of Walterboro, South Carolina, Diane Campbell of Savannah, Georgia, Terry Jones of Walterboro, South Carolina, Frankie Campbell (Angie) of Varnville, South Carolina, Larry Campbell (Johnette) of Varnville, South Carolina, and Lester Campbell of Brooklyn, New York; Two Sisters-in-law: Mary Dennis of Brooklyn, New York and Margaret Price of Holly Hill, South Carolina; One aunt, Myrtis Lingard of Varnville, South Carolina; A host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and caring friends.
