Deaconess Mary Eloise Hays-Capers was born in Hampton, South Carolina on April 22, 1941 to the late Mr. Paul Hays and Mrs. Eloise Murdaugh Hays-White. On Tuesday, December 29, 2020 at Bayview Nursing and Rehabilitation Facility, Beaufort, SC, our beloved Mary was called from labor to rest. Mary, as she was affectionately called, was a devoted member of the Miley Church of God, Miley, South Carolina where she accepted the Lord as her personal Savior. Mary was known at revivals as the “singing lady”, carrying her microphone and hymn book. “My God is Real” was her favorite hymn because she said that was her testimony. Mary served faithfully at Miley Church of God as the children’s Sunday school teacher, choir member and treasurer. Mary was a 1958 graduate of the former North District Training School, Varnville, SC. Her furthered studies included Benedict College, Columbia, South Carolina and a 1992 graduate of the Technical College of the Lowcountry, Beaufort, South Carolina. Mary earned her Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) License and began working at the former Stiles Harper Nursing Center, Estill, SC as well as Amedisys Home HealthCare, Walterboro, SC. Mary’s hobbies included spending time in her yard, gardening, cooking, and playing the piano. She loved taking care of the elderly and was called upon by family members to take care of them. She took care of her mother until her demise in 2006. Mary was preceded in death by her husband, Rickie Capers; her parents, Mr. Paul Hays and Mrs. Eloise Hays-White; her step-father, Mr. Buster White; her two brothers: Cleveland and Thaddeus Hays and her sister, Delaris "Nuda" Hays. Mary leaves to cherish her memories five children: Darlene (Earl, Sr.) Boston of Columbia, SC, Michele (Michael) Walker of Lexington, SC, Cheryl (Kevin) Greene of Yemassee, SC, Paulette (Michael) Harris of El Paso, TX and Theodore Capers of Camp Humphreys, South Korea; One brother-in-law, Lay Servant Ronnie “Pete” (Evangelist Norma) Capers of Hampton, SC; One sister-in-law, Nidsa D.
