John Calvin Moore, 72, son of the late Mr. John C. Wight and Mrs. Clara Moore Doctor, was born November 30, 1946 in Hampton County, South Carolina. John was reared in the home of his grandmother, the late Mrs. Desser Moore Council. He died Wednesday, October 9, 2019 at his residence in the Sand Ridge Community of Varnville, South Carolina.
He was educated in the public-school system of Hampton County, South Carolina. At a young age, John relocated to Brooklyn, New York. In New York, he was gainfully employed by the city of New York’s Sanitation Department. Upon retirement, John returned to his native home of Varnville.
John was very industrious with his hands, making clocks, furniture and sewing men’s clothing.
One son, Trimayne Moore, preceded him in death.
Cherishing fond memories are his son, Rakeem Moore of Brooklyn, New York; Four sisters: Gloria (Deacon Thomas) O’Banner of Early Branch, South Carolina, Vernell Allen, Betty Jean (Deacon Larry) Davis, and Mary Ellen Green (John), all of Varnville, South Carolina Two brothers: Randolph (Tilea) Doctor of Columbia, South Carolina and Minister George Doctor of Varnville, South Carolina; Four aunts: Betty Lee of St. Louis, Missouri, Pauline Davis, Polly Moore and Betty Henderson, all of Varnville, South Carolina; Numerous nieces, nephews (including a special and devoted nephew, Dexter Doctor, of Atlanta, Georgia), other relatives and caring friends.
