The Obituary

For God so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in Him should not perish, but have everlasting life.  John 3:16 (KJV)

Arthur Rosewell Cuthbert was born November 2, 1935 in St. Helena Island, SC.  He was the son of Arthur C. Brown and Ida (Cuthbert) Nelson.  He passed away peacefully on November 16, 2019, after a long struggle with chronic medical conditions.

Arthur enlisted in the United States Army and proudly served his country for 30 years until his retirement in 1986.  He achieved the rank of Sergeant Major and was awarded the Bronze Star and numerous other distinguished citations during his illustrious career.

After a successful career in the Army, Arthur successfully transitioned to a second career in Security Management at Dataw and Bull Point Plantations until his second retirement in 2004.

Arthur instilled in his children a strong work ethic, integrity above reproach, and dedication to the community and country. He demonstrated this daily by working until the job was done, always choosing the harder right instead of the easier wrong.  He was never content with a half-truth when the whole can be found.

Arthur’s parents, three sisters: Jacquelyn Green, Annette McDowell-Jordan, and Deanna Brown and a brother, George Brown, preceded him in death.

He memories will forever be cherished by his beloved wife of 58 years, Annie Cuthbert of Hampton, SC; three sons: Douglas Blair of Savannah, GA; Trent (Gisela) Cuthbert of Wiesbaden, Germany and Arthur R. Cuthbert of Beaufort, SC; one daughter, Glenda (Joe) Mitchell of Dumfries, VA; six brothers: Edward Barnwell and James (Cassandra) Barnwell  of Savannah, GA, Arthur J. Brown of St. Helena Island, SC, Derald and  Gerald Brown both of Dayton, OH, and Christopher Brown of St. Helena Island, SC; three sisters: Judy (Benjamin) Major, and Tracy Bordeaux of St. Helena Island, SC and Barbara (Carlton) Stewart of Duluth, GA; nine grandchildren: Trent, Christopher, Michelle, Timothy, Abigail, Kayla, Jeremiah, Matthew, and Audrey; other relatives and friends.
