Missionary Ruemell Mitchell Capers was born in Colleton County, SC to Deacon Richard Mitchell and Missionary Eva R. Mitchell on June 12, 1939. She was educated in the public schools of Colleton County; but she wanted to finish what she started. She later decided to go to night school and obtained her high school diploma at Wade Hampton High School, Varnville, SC in May 1985.
At a young age, she devoted her life to Christ and became a member of St. John Baptist Church in Varnville, SC. She later joined St. Paul Pentecostal Holiness Church, Islandton, SC where she received the gift of the Holy Ghost. She served faithfully as a Missionary, Evangelist, Devotional Leader and Choir Member. By and By When the Morning Comes, Fill My Cup Lord, and Stay Under the Blood were just a few of her favorite songs that she loved to sing. She didn’t mind giving God the praise anytime, and anywhere. She was also a well-known prayer warrior and intercessor for many in her family, community and beyond.
She was united in holy matrimony on December 15, 1962 to Daniel Capers, Sr. This union was blessed with two children. Missionary Capers served as a caregiver and private duty nurse in the Lowcountry for many years. She retired from the Hampton County Disabilities and Special Needs Board in Varnville, SC.
She was preceded in death by her parents; Her husband; Sisters: Carolyn Geneva Mitchell and Pearl M. (Jimmy) Middleton; Brother, Leonard Mitchell, Sr.; Grandson, Joshua Capers Bush; And cherished and beloved in-laws: Reverend Harry and Elizabeth Capers; Beulah Capers, Harry Capers, Jr., Joshua Capers, Mell Capers Lingard, Matthew Capers, and James Lee Smith.
She answered the call of her Savior on Wednesday, October 16, 2019 at her home where she was surrounded by her family.
She leaves to cherish fond memories: One daughter, Sherry L. (Chris) Capers-Bush of Columbia, SC; One son, Daniel O. (Patricia) Capers, Jr. of the home; Two grandsons: John JaiQuan Bush of Columbia, SC and Jakyri Diondre Thompson of Varnville, SC; Four sisters: Janell Mitchell of Brooklyn, NY, Laverne Capers of Fairfax, SC, Annie (Robert) Garvin and Lynette (Irvin) Harley of Varnville, SC; Sisters-in-law: Betty Mitchell of Hampton, SC, Martha Capers and Elizabeth Smith, both of Varnville, SC; Brothers-in-law: Eli (Minnie) Capers of Augusta, GA, James Capers, Timothy Capers, both of Varnville, SC; One aunt, Frances Rivers of Hampton, SC; One uncle, Clinton Smith of Islandton, SC; One godson, William James Capers of Hampton, SC; Special caregiver, Patricia Thompson; loving and devoted cousin, Retha Mae McQuire; And a host of loving nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
