Brother Albert Leon Pressley, son of the late Mr. Columbus and Mrs. Almelia Pressley, was born in Nesmith, South Carolina September 7, 1928. He departed this life on Monday, April 8, 2019 at Colleton Medical Center, Walterboro, South Carolina.
At an early age, he became a member of Friendship United Methodist Church. Later in life, he joined Sykes Savannah United Methodist Church, Ruffin, South Carolina under the leadership of Reverend Robert Shuler. As a Christian, Albert remained faithful in serving the Lord. He was a loyal and dedicated servant to the work of the Lord. He was a Lay Speaker, Sunday School Superintendent, Adult Sunday School Teacher, Chairperson of the United Methodist Men, and member of the Church Trustees.
Albert attended Brown Elementary and Brown High School of Nesmith, South Carolina; He thereafter, for a period of one year, attended Morris College in Sumter, South Carolina. Albert transferred to Claflin University, Orangeburg, South Carolina. While attending college, he was drafted to serve his country in the United States Army. After serving for two years during the Korean War, Albert returned to college, completed his degree, and graduated from Claflin College.
Albert was employed with Railway Express of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. He taught science for twenty-two years in the Philadelphia Public School System. He was also employed with Smith Kline Beckman Pharmaceutical, where he retired and embraced the love of his life, farming.
Preceding him in death was the late Ruby Harley-Pressley; and, ten siblings: six brothers and four sisters.
Brother Albert Pressley was united in Holy Matrimony on December 7, 2012 to the former Gwendolyn Brooker.
Fond memories will forever be cherished by his loving and devoted wife, Mrs. Gwendolyn Pressley; (3) Sons: Rodney of Blackwood, New Jersey, Gregory of Islandton, South Carolina, and Bryan of Willingboro, New Jersey; (6) Grandchildren; (5) Great grandchildren; (1) Sister, Willie V. Lynch of Washington, DC; (2) brothers: James B (Ellen) Pressley of Maryland and Herbert Pressley of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania; (8) Sisters-in-law: Mary Pressley of Nesmith, South Carolina, Catherine Pressley of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, Joeann Grant and Carolyn Brooker of Hampton, South Carolina, Loretta (Derrick) Capers of Early Branch, South Carolina, Bridgette (Jerry) Goodwin of Charlotte, North Carolina, Sherri (Robert) Smart of Atlanta, Georgia, and Minnie Coleman of Early Branch, South Carolina, (5) Brothers-in-law: James Brooker and Drepher (Kendra) Davis of Hampton, South Carolina, Elder Robert (Chrissy) Davis of Raleigh, North Carolina, Kevin (Regina) Coleman of Linden, New Jersey, and Johnathan (Lattwana) Cuylear of Elizabeth, New Jersey; An adopted daughter, JaNiyah Turner; A host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
