The Obituary

Mr. Arthur Lee Ruth, born to the late Jack and Edith Ruth, departed this life on Thursday, July 08, 2021.  He entered eternal rest at his residence in Varnville, SC. 

Arthur Lee, known to many as “Bobby Rush”, was born on December 7, 1953 in Varnville, Hampton County, SC.  Arthur Lee and his family moved to Cocoa, Fla. during his early childhood. He was educated in the public schools of Fla.  At an early age, he joined the St. Paul Baptist Church in Fla. where he served faithfully until he moved back home.  Arthur Lee was united in Holy Matrimony to the late Debbie Mathis.  To this union, 2 children were born, Santonio Ruth and Nakia Ruth.  

Arthur Lee later returned home and joined the Antioch Christian Church (D.O.C) where he fellowshipped until his health declined.  He worked for many years in Hampton County School District One until his retirement.  

Preceding him in death are his parents, Jack and Edith Ruth and one son, Nakia Ruth. 

Arthur Lee leaves to cherish fond memories: His loving and devoted wife, Ethel Ruth of the home; One devoted and loving daughter, Tiffany Cochran, Varnville, SC; Three sons: Santonio (Lisa) Ruth, Cocoa, Fla., Warren (April) Pressley, Florence, SC, and Harry Jenkins, Varnville, SC; Three Sisters: Sabrina Harley, Varnville, SC, Velma (Pastor Wayne) Carter, Fairfax, SC, and Vashon Berry, Cocoa, Fla.; One brother, Danny Bennett, Estill, SC; Two sisters-in-law: Sally (Leon) Allen, Varnville, SC, and Francis Singleton, Savannah, Ga.; Five brothers-in-law: Harold (Betty) Jenkins, New Hampshire, James Jenkins, Arlington, Va., Donald (Parthenia) Jenkins, Tampa, Fla., Joseph (Beverly) Jenkins, Varnville, SC, and Samuel Kelly, Cincinnati, OH; Three uncles: Otis (Edna) Hamilton and Lindsey (Loretta) Wright all of Varnville, SC, and Marion Hamilton, Sylvania, Ga; Six aunts: Carrie Cohen, Shirley Brown, and Mary Ann Wright all of Nixville, SC, Martha Capers, Retha Hamilton and Helen Hamilton all of Varnville, SC; One god-sister, Ethel (Harold) Jones, Cocoa, Fla; One god-daughter, Tawanna Gordon, NC; One special granddaughter, Little Miss Reaghan Wright, Varnville, SC; Ten Grandchildren; Two Great Grandchildren; Four Devoted Friends: Teresa Williams, Ponscie Capers, Atto Alls all of Varnville, SC and Charles Drake, Hampton, SC; Two special caregivers: Johnny Allen, Brunson, SC and his niece, Mae Frances Smith, Varnville, SC; A host of niece, nephews, cousins and sympathizing friends-too numerous to mention.
