Bronx, New York - A useful life ended Saturday, February 2, 2013 at his home when Mr. William Vern Dunbar was called from labor to reward. Mr. Dunbar, son of the late Deacon Jasper and Mrs. Maggie Ree Dunbar, was born August 13, 1939 in Varnville, South Carolina.
At an early age, “Bee” as he was affectionately called, was converted to Christ and joined Harmonia Missionary Baptist Church located in the Camp Branch Community of Varnville, SC. He was a 1958 graduate of the former North District Training School, Varnville, SC. Upon graduation, Mr. William Vern Dunbar relocated to NY. There he joined All People’s Church of the Apostolic Faith, Incorporated, Brooklyn, NY under the pastorate of Bishop Italy Cokley. He served there for eighteen years. On August 26, 1961, he was united in Holy Matrimony to the late Mrs. Marie Cephas Dunbar.
Mr. William Vern Dunbar was a 2003 retiree of St. Mary Hospital where he had been gainfully employed in the Housekeeping Department for twenty-five years. “Bee” believed in family. On July 4, 1972, he and other 1st cousins organized the Ben and Sue Williams Family Reunion, which is still in existence to this day. From the year of inception (1972) through 2012, William Vern has not missed a single reunion!
Preceding him in death are: His wife, Marie C. Dunbar; His children: Evelyn Mingo and Michael Dunbar; His sister, Maggie D. Williams; (2) Brothers-in-law: Joseph Cephas and James Brooks.
He leaves to mourn his home going: (3) Daughters: Carol Mingo of York, NY, Delores Mingo of Bronx, NY and Shakia Dunbar of Brooklyn, NY; (4) Sons: Larry Cephas of York, NY, Roger Dunbar of NJ, Darren Dunbar of Long Island, NY and Terrone Dunbar of Brooklyn, NY; (1) Daughter-in-law, Raegena Dunbar of NJ; (14) Grandchildren; (14) Great grand children; (1) Sister, Evang. Vionna Adams of Varnville, SC; (2) God-daughters: Evang. Shirley H. Washington of Varnville, SC and Ms. Marilyn Darby of Brooklyn, NY; (5) Sisters-in-law: Francis Gist of Brooklyn, NY, Carol Cephas of Coney Island, NY, Laura Brooks and Patricia Cephas, both of Brooklyn, NY and Kathy Cephas, of TX; (4) Brothers-in-law: Robert Cephas of Brooklyn, NY, Alexander Bilfone Cephas of Hamlet, NC, Hardy Gist of Brooklyn, NY and Dea. James Adams of Varnville, SC; A host of nieces and nephews, including a devoted niece, Tonie Brown and devoted nephews: Erskine Dunton and Smoloskey Dunbar (Ella Mae); Other relatives, including a devoted cousin, Ulysee Dunbar and sympathizing friends.
