Life and Legacy of John
John H. Williams was born in Varnville, SC to John H. Williams, Sr and Queen E. Williams on May 18, 1963. John spent his formative years in Varnville, SC and Newark, NJ where he received his formal education and acquired the moniker “Rasheed". In high school, John played the trumpet for the school band and was a member of the Track and Field Team and Future Farmers of America where he developed his love of gardening. John graduated from Wade Hampton High School in 1981, then went on to attend Middlesex College (NJ) before entering the US Navy in 1982, where he became an Aviation Mechanic, 3rd Class Petty Officer stationed in Virginia Beach, VA and received an honorable discharge in 1986.
John worked various jobs through the years in NJ before relocating to NC where he worked as a Print Shop Supervisor. John earned a Biotechnology certification in 2016 and went on to work in the Biotech industry. John resided in NC with his wife, Leonora Reynolds Williams and two sons, John Lamar Reynolds and Paris X. Williams (mother: the late Gloria Wright). John relocated to Varnville, SC in 2018 where he worked as a Corrections Officer. John was an avid outdoorsman and marksman. He loved cooking, hunting, fishing, and travelling. He loved working with his hands and could often be found fixing and tinkering with something. John transitioned peacefully at home on Thursday, June 27, 2024. He was preceded in death by his father, John Howard, and sisters Priscilla and Donetta. John leaves to cherish his memory, his wife, Leonora; mother, Queen; sons: John and Paris; granddaughter, Parker; brother, Hastings Edward, sister-in-law, Teresa; aunts: Shirley Braeboy, Ida Williams, Tobica Williams and Peggy Williams; uncles Hastings Smith, Hurie Williams and Kenny Braeboy; nephews, Edward Jr. and Freihman Williams, Daishae, Sahmir, Dakari, and Yusef Reynolds, and Saiyd Mack; nieces, Candice and Elizabeth Williams and DaKeerah Jenkins; and a host of loving family and friends.
