The Obituary

On Friday, July 19, 2024, Clinton Smith was called from labor to reward at his home in Islandton, South Carolina.  He was born on May 23, 1941, in Colleton County, South Carolina.  He was the youngest sibling of the late Ladson and Gertrude Buckner Smith.
 
He was a 1960 graduate of Ruffin High School, Ruffin, South Carolina.  Upon graduation, he became gainfully employed for many years by the former Embler Door Company of Varnville, South Carolina. He afterwards became employed by Upchurch Lumber Mill of Walterboro, South Carolina.  Finally, he retired from Nibco Inc. of Denmark, South Carolina.
 
At an early age, Clinton joined St. John Baptist Church, Varnville, South Carolina where he served faithfully until his health declined.  He served in several capacities to include: a member of the male chorus, senior choir, usher board, and a member of the cemetery committee.  Clinton was also a member of the former gospel group known as “The Flying Eagles”.
 
He enjoyed farming, gardening, hunting with the Sharpe Shooters Hunting Club, planting sugar cane (making syrup), and spending time with the family pets Cash and Coco.
 
He was preceded in death by: Two sisters; Three brothers; and One son, Bobby Joe Smith.
 
He was united in holy matrimony to Mary Wright Smith on December 21, 1962.  To this union, they were blessed with four children.
 
He leaves to cherish his memories a loving and devoted wife, Mary Smith of Islandton, South Carolina; Three daughters: Sharon (Leon) Cobb, and Aletha (Herbert)Wiggins, all of Walterboro, South Carolina, and Pamela Smith (fiancé Yancy) of Islandton, South Carolina; One son, Curtis (Coretha) Smith of Islandton, South Carolina; Nine grandchildren; Four step grandchildren; Twenty-nine great grandchildren; One sister, Frances Rivers of Varnville, South Carolina. One sister-in-law, Gerline Smith of Islandton, South Carolina; along with a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
