The Obituary
Clary Ella Odom, affectionately known by her love ones as “Clay”, was born March 6, 1942 in Blackville, Barnwell County, SC to the late Frank Harley, Sr. and Ethel Dull Harley. On Thursday, May 17, 2018, Clary Ella Odom entered into peaceful rest at her home in Blackville, South Carolina.
She was educated in the public schools of Blackville, SC. And, at an early age, she surrendered her life to Christ, becoming a baptized member of Mt. Zion Baptist Church, Lees, South Carolina. She later move by letter to Tabernacle Baptist Church, Blackville, South Carolina, where she was a faithful door keeper in the house of the Lord until her health declined.
She was formerly employed as a dryer feeder for many years at Tally Corbett Company, Springfield, South Carolina. She remained employed until the decline of health.
“Clay” enjoyed feeding family and friends, going to church, helping to rear other’s children, and spending time with her grand and great grand children. She will always be fondly remembered for her pleasant personality, friendly smile, jovial laugh, and for always unselfishly giving back to her church, community, and to all who were blessed to know her.
In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by two daughters, Mary L. Bates and Margie A. Lee; five brothers; and three sisters.
Those left to cherish her memories are: her husband, Charles Odom, Sr. of Blackville, South Carolina; (1) daughter, Willie Mae Smalls (Robert) of the home; (1) son, Charles Odom, Jr. (Rhonda) of Blackville, South Carolina; (1) Adopted son, Corterra Woodley (Crystal Nix); (1) Adopted daughter, Tonyelle Harrison; (5) Grandchildren: Jamie Odom Norton (Anthuan), Nancy Chisolm and Imoya Smalls, all of Blackville, South Carolina Shaquille and O’Lesia Odom, both of Denmark, South Carolina, (7) Great grand children; (9) Adopted grand children; (3) Sisters: Hattie Harley of Blackville, South Carolina, Ethel Harley and Dorothy Ray, both of New York, New York; (2) Brothers: Joseph Harley and Dea. William Harley (Elouise) of Blackville, South Carolina; (6) Sisters-in-law: Remell Harley and Peggy White, both of Blackville, South Carolina, Hannah Singleton and Eldora Odom, both of Fla., Annie Mae Gerrick (Willie Sr.) of Denmark, South Carolina, and Dorothy Harley of Atlanta, Georgia; A host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends, including a special friend of the family, Frank Baxley of Williston, South Carolina.
