Deacon Joe Nathan Lingard was born on February 25, 1936, a son of the late Panny and Edith Lingard. He was called from his earthly home on May 9, 2018 at Medical University of South Carolina, Charleston, South Carolina.
He was educated in the public schools of Hampton County, South Carolina. It was there he was taught the fundamentals of a secular education. As a young man, however, he sought and found the greater knowledge of Christianity, becoming a baptized member of Mt. Sinai Missionary Baptist Church, Varnville, South Carolina.
Deacon Joe Nathan Lingard enlisted in the United States Army from which he was honorably discharged in 1961.
Upon completion of military service, Deacon Joe Nathan Lingard faithfully served the body of Christ at Mt. Sinai. Because of his faithfulness and devotion, Mt. Sinai ordained him as a Deacon in 1980. He was later baptized in the name of Jesus Christ.
He worked as a farmer for many years. His specialty was the home grown watermelons. There was no other farmer whose melons were sweeter than Deacon Lingard’s. And he was very proud to know this. He was gainfully employed for twenty-five years by the former Westinghouse of Hampton, South Carolina. He retired in 1996. He later worked for Kroger’s Grocery, Bluffton, South Carolina for five years.
He was preceded in death by his parents; Four sisters: Elizabeth Williams, Margie Campbell, Beulah Rozier, and Janie Clark; One brother, Henry Lee Lingard; and one brother-in-law, Archie Mingo.
His loving memories will be cherished by his devoted wife of sixty-two years, Myrtis Lingard of the home; (2) Sons: Joseph Lingard of Hampton, South Carolina and David (Pam) Lingard of Hinesville, Georgia; (3) Daughters: Sherily (Allen) Davis and Marilyn (Larry) Raglon, both of Columbus, Georgia, and Diane (David) Pressley of Anderson, South Carolina; (12) Grandchildren; (17) Great grandchildren; (4) Grand god-children; His mother-in-law, Audrey Mingo of Islandton, South Carolina; (2) Brothers-in-law: Floyd (Frances) Mingo of York, Pennsylvania and Rozy Mingo of Hampton, South Carolina ; (1) Sister-in-law, Polly Woodall of Palmetto, Florida; A host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
