Herbert Lee Robinson was born on July 10, 1944, to the late Deacon Herbert and Ottie Y. Robinson, in Hampton County, South Carolina. On Tuesday, July 24, 2018, he succumbed to the call of God while at Interfaith Medical Center, Brooklyn, New York.
At an early age, he joined Harmonia Baptist Church, Varnville, South Carolina.
Herbert graduated from the former North District Training School, Class of 1962, Varnville, South Carolina. He was the owner and operator of Robinson Transportation Company, a truck driver for over fifty (50) years.
Herbert entered into holy matrimony on March 4, 1965 to the former Ms. Regina Bowers. To this union, two children were born.
Herbert was preceded in death by his parents, Deacon Herbert and Ottie Y. Robinson; his sister, Gloria Jane Strother; his mother-in-law, Norine B. Haynes of New Jersey; and his father-in-law, Pearlstine Black of New York.
He leaves to cherish his memories a loving wife of 53 years, Regina B. Robinson of the home; One devoted daughter, Phyllis Robinson of Varnville, South Carolina; One son, Kenneth L. (Michelle) Robinson, Sr. of Bluffton, South Carolina; Six grandchildren: Kendra Robinson (reared in the home) of Aiken, South Carolina, Shannon Robinson of Spartanburg, South Carolina, Antoinette Davis of Columbia, South Carolina, Anthony Davis of Clemson, South Carolina, Jasmine Robinson of Bluffton, South Carolina, and Kenneth Robinson Jr. of Charleston, South Carolina; Three great grandchildren: Key’aira Jakail (His “Boo-Boo”), Kendrick Lamar (his piglet), and Amiya Kirsten; An adopted granddaughter, Zikovija Badger. One sister, Rosa (Deacon Junior Lee) Smalls; Two brothers-in-law: Deacon Phillip Strother of Varnville, South Carolina; and Larry (Carol) Haynes, raised as his son, of New Jersey; Two sisters-in-law: Jessie Jefferies and Deloris Haynes, both of New Jersey; One uncle, Earl Robinson of Varnville, South Carolina; Reared as a daughter, Marie (Kenneth) Mears of Islandton, South Carolina; One adopted sister, Evangelist Verta Thompson of Varnville, South Carolina; Four aunts: Louise Allen, O’Vera McEachern, Bernice Townsend, and Maxine Black all of Brooklyn, New York; Four godchildren: Terri (Shawn) Davis of Columbia, South Carolina, Sonya Strother of Atlanta, Georgia, Shelby Strother of Varnville, South Carolina and Carlton Strother of Washington, DC; A host of nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends.
