A great oak has fallen! When it fell, it struck the earth and the thud created a tremor which shook the ground. The resulting rustle was felt at its roots and by all its leaves and branches. The Crosson family has lost a stalwart in our beloved Edna. On the beautiful spring day of April 4, 1932, Lily Grant Harley and John Henry Haynes was blessed with a bundle of joy, naming her Edna Louise. Edna was educated in the schools of Hampton County. At an early age she met and married the love of her life, Mr. George Crosson. Following her formal education and marital bliss, she became a dedicated employee with the Hampton County School District One. After many years of service with Hampton County, Edna retired and became an entrepreneur with her husband George opening and running Crosson’s Grocery’s for forty plus years. A faithful member of Bethlehem Missionary Baptist Church, Hampton, Edna worked diligently in many church ministries especially the SBS Benevolent Society. Edna would always say, “Nothing sits home but the furniture.” An avid traveler, she enjoyed the various scenic views during her travels with her loving family. Mother Crosson also had a passion for plants and gardening and was also known for her succulent meals. She will be missed for her humorous and loving spirit in which she portrayed throughout her life.
