For we know that if our earthly house of this tabernacle were dissolved, we have a building of God, an house not made with hands, eternal in the heavens. II Cor. 5:1

Evangelist Gloria D. Heyward, the daughter of the late Mr. & Mrs. Dave and Odesser Dickerson, Sr. was born January 26, 1952 in Olar, South Carolina.  She entered into eternal rest on Thursday, December 10, 2015 at the Medical University of South Carolina in Charleston, South Carolina.

Gloria received her early education in the public schools of Bamberg County, South Carolina.  In 1970, she graduated from Voorhees High School, Denmark, South Carolina.  In 1977, she earned an Associate Degree from the University of South Carolina, Salkehatchie Campus, Allendale, South Carolina.  Upon completion of studies at Allendale, Gloria graduated from the University of South Carolina, Aiken Campus, Aiken, South Carolina, receiving a Bachelor’s Degree in 1979.

She was united in holy matrimony to Daniel L. Heyward on December 19, 1971.  To this union, one child was born, Daniel Maurice Heyward.

She was gainfully employed by Hampton County School District One for thirty-two years, before retiring in 2011.  She taught primarily at North District Middle School, Varnville, South Carolina.   Her area of instruction was the subject matter of math.  Evangelist Heyward enjoyed her students, tutoring those who needed strengthening, and challenging all of them to succeed.   She made learning enjoyable.

Gloria accepted Christ as her Savior at an early age.  She first joined St Phillip Apostolic Faith Church. Thereafter, she became a faithful member of Mt. Joy Holiness Church.  Gloria joined her husband, Elder Daniel L. Heyward, when he became pastor of Mt. Claire Holiness Church, Scotia, South Carolina.  She was eventually called into ministry as an Evangelist.

She leaves to cherish her fond memories: a devoted husband, Elder Daniel L. Heyward of the home; One child, Daniel Maurice Heyward of Columbia, South Carolina; Five sisters: Rutha Mae Dickerson  and Mary Ellen Brewer, both of Olar, South Carolina, Grace Smith-Orr (Leroy) of Savannah, Georgia, Kathy M. Hudson (John) of Olar, South Carolina, and Jacquelyn Dickerson-Ideozu (Clement) of North Charleston, South Carolina;  One brother: Dave Dickerson, Jr. (Laurette) of Westerville, Ohio; Four brothers-in-law: Isaac Heyward and Nathaniel Heyward, both of Varnville, South Carolina, Harry L Heyward (Sheena) of Fayetteville, North Carolina, and Bishop David Heyward (Debra Ann) of Varnville, South Carolina; Five sisters-in-law: Ollie Mae Welch (Bill) of Raleigh, North Carolina, Lula Bell Wright (Anthony) of Garland, Texas, Carolyn Jamison (Jeroy) of Hampton,  South Carolina, Debra Scott (Michael) of Varnville, South Carolina, and Christine James of Varnville, South Carolina;  A host nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
