Life Reflections
Queen Elizabeth Williams was born on December 23, 1946, in Hampton County. She was one of five children born to Hastings Smith, Sr. and Bessie Grant Smith who are both deceased. She was married to John H. Williams, Sr. in holy matrimony. This union was blessed with four children: Donnetta, John Jr., Hastings, and Priscilla. She was preceded in death by: John Sr.; one son, John Jr.; two daughters: Donnetta and Priscilla; and two sisters, Gloria and Betty.
She was a faithful member at Samaritan Baptist Church in Varnville, South Carolina for many years. In her early years, she attended school in Hampton County. She then relocated to New Jersey where she continued her education at Essex County College.
Queen had many vocations over the years. She worked as a bus driver for New Jersey Transit, General Electric, and New Jersey Bell, to name a few. Upon her return to South Carolina, she worked at Wade Hampton High School within the South Carolina School System and the South Carolina Department of Correction until her retirement.
She was full of zest and vigor and never truly met a stranger. She was a trail blazer in many ways and loved life. She was affectionately known as “Gypsy” to motorcycle enthusiasts, founding the “Chi-Lite Riders” motorcycle club.
She leaves to cherish her memories: Her son, Hastings E. (Teresa) Williams of Madison, MS; Daughter in law, Leonora Williams of Clayton, NC; Niece and Care Giver, LaTasha Duckett, of Varnville, SC; Niece/daughter, Gwen Capers Singleton (Reggie) of St. Matthews, NC; Her Brother, Hastings Smith Jr. of Clayton, NC; Sisters: Ida Williams of Varnville, SC, and Shirley Brayboy (Kenneth) of Varnville, SC; Her Brother-in-law, Hurie Williams of Newark, NJ; Her Sister-in-law, Tobica Williams of Brooklyn, NY; (6) Grandchildren: Lamar Williams of NC, Paris Williams of Patterson, NJ, Hastings Williams, Jr. of Nashville, TN, Levell Williams of Hartford, CT , Candice Williams of Madison, MS, and Elizabeth Williams of Madison, MS; (1) Great Grandchild, Parker McNeil of NC; Lifelong friends: Georgia Mae Adams of Miami, Florida, Mattie Watts of Irvington, NJ, and Jenny Garvin of Varnville, SC; And a host of nieces, nephews, families, and friends!
