Janese Moore Whitlock, 89 years old, formerly of the Sandridge Community, entered her eternal rest on February 25,2026 at her home surrounded by her loving family.
Janese was born on June 17,1936 in Varnville, SC. She was the beloved sixth child of John and Edie Mae Lingard Moore. Her formative years were spent attending the New Hope School in Crocketville, SC and the Old Ben Hazel Colored School in Hampton, SC. Around the eighth or ninth grade, her mother became ill and she became caretaker, not only for her, but for her younger siblings as well. This life crisis paused her academic pursuits, but it did not prevent her from learning and growing intellectually. During her early childhood she attended the St. John Baptist Church, and later, when she decided to dedicate her life to Christ, she was baptized into the Seventh-Day Adventist Church in August 1971. She was a member of the Ridgeland Seventh-Day Adventist Church in Ridgeland, SC until her death.
Janese was employed as a textile worker at Falcon Industries for approximately sixteen years until her mother’s health began failing. Once again, she took on the role of caregiver for her aging mother. For thirteen years she lovingly attended to her until her in death in 2007.
On November 4, 1956, Janese was united in marriage to Henry Whitlock, Jr., her longtime childhood sweetheart. But Henry had to earn her love and trust. Only after his third proposal, she finally agreed to marry him. To this union, two children were born, Felicia and Sean Whitlock.
Janese was a beautiful soul known to everyone she encountered for her kind, loving, and gentle demeanor. Her faith in God was strong, and she shared her love for Him with all she could. She enjoyed singing and listening to gospel music, especially Lee Williams, the Spiritual QC’s, and the Williams Brothers. In her earlier years, she was a member of a quintet called, “The Blue Ribbon Singers,” and she never gave up her love for singing until her passing. Janese was quite a homemaker, having the gift of cooking sumptuous dishes and baking delightful treats. She also enjoyed making quilts and was known throughout her family for gifting them during the holiday season. Most importantly, Janese loved to read and study her bible, reading it in its entirety annually for many years. She served in various roles at her church, namely: Sabbath School Superintendent, Sabbath School Teacher, Church Treasurer, and Head Deaconess just to name a few of the hats she wore for many, many years.
Janese is survived by her husband, Henry Whitlock, Jr.; her children, Felicia (Hilton) Woods of Santee, SC and Sean (Tara) Whitlock of Goose Creek, SC; her two grandchildren who were reared in the home, Amber (Gary) Allen of Bluffton, SC and Sebastian Whitlock of Norfolk, VA. She leaves six additional grandchildren, seven great grandchildren, and four great-great children; two sisters, Mary Folk and Carrie Patterson; two brothers, Leon (Irene) Moore, and Ferrell (Pearline) Moore; two sisters-in-law, Hilda Goodridge and Leona Brown; two brothers-in-law, John (Laura) Whitlock, and Joe Louis (Greta) Whitlock; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, church family, friends, and loved ones.
She also leaves behind additional special loved ones: Pamela Gordon, who was like a granddaughter, her dedicated hospice aide and hospice nurse, Lisa Glover and Stephanie O’Quinn.
Janese was preceded in death by her parents; three sisters, Sarah, Margerie, and Iva Ree; seven brothers, John Raymond, Earlin, Herbert Lee, Jessie, Edward, Lewis, and Willard Moore.
