I press toward the mark for the prize of the high calling
of God in Christ Jesus. Philippians 3:14
Seeing the need to rest from her good deeds and labor, God called Missionary Carolyn Grant home to get her crown on Sunday, June 7, 2009 at 11:08 A.M., after an extended illness.
“Cat”, as she was affectionately called by her close family and friends, was born Carolyn Grant on November 17, 1944 to Mother Cora Porter-Grant and the late Cecil “Cephus” Grant, in Ehrhardt, South Carolina.
At an early age, Carolyn joined the Rizer Chapel United Methodist Church serving in many capacities until she moved to New York, where she joined and worshipped faithfully with the Zion Pentecostal Rescue House of Prayer for All Nations, Inc. Desiring to continue her service for the Lord upon her return to South Carolina, Missionary Grant continued serving with the Zion Pentecostal Rescue House of Prayer for All Nations, Inc. of Ehrhardt, South Carolina.
Carolyn received her early education at the Lewis L. Butler School in Ehrhardt, South Carolina and graduated in 1964 from Richard Carroll High School, Bamberg, South Carolina.
After graduating from high school, Carolyn moved to the north where she began her career at Culver Glassware, Incorporated, Newark, New Jersey, where she retired after twenty years of service. She subsequently retired from the Transit Authority in New York City after ten years.
Feeling the need to reacquaint herself with her roots and family, Carolyn moved back to Ehrhardt, South Carolina in 1999. She took on the role as “Caregiver” to her beautiful mother.
Carolyn had many interests and hobbies. She especially had a great love for being creative and working with her hands. To see her beautiful yard was evidence that she loved flowers and the outdoors.
The character of the life of Carolyn can be summed up in a few words: she was quiet, sincere, earnest, loyal, industrious and self-sacrificing.
Four brothers and one sister precede Carolyn in death.
Carolyn leaves to cherish her beautiful memory: Her mother, Cora Porter-Grant of the home; A devoted daughter, Shawana M. Grant (Ernest) of Ehrhardt, South Carolina; A son, Alonzo T. Grant of Jonesboro, Arkansas; Four brothers: Harry, Jessie, Cephus Jr. and Lewis M. (Lottie) Grant, all of Ehrhardt, South Carolina; Two loving grandchildren (which were the hot spots in her heart): Krisshawn Brown-Grant and Emyjae Heyward, both of Ehrhardt, South Carolina; Five aunts: Mother Ethernell Seymore (special aunt), Rumell P. Wilson, Vernice P. Bolen and Bernell P. Black, all of Ehrhardt, South Carolina and Ophelia Porter of Brooklyn, New York; A special uncle, Lewis Grant, Jr. (Mattie Lee) of Brooklyn, New York; One god-daughter, Tionna P. Hill; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, neighbors, beloved church family and special friends.
