Varnville, South Carolina- Celebration of the life of Mr. Alphonso Capers, Sr. of 55 Swan Road was held Saturday, January 7, 2012, 1:00 P.M. at Toby United Methodist Church, Islandton, South Caroina. Interment followed in Toby Cemetery of Islandton. Pastor Muriel L. Scott was the officiating minister.
Funeral arrangements and service were entrusted to Washington's Funeral Home of Hampton, South Carolina.
Mr. Alphonso “Pee” Capers departed his life on Saturday, December 31, 2011, after a brief illness at Roper Roper/St. Francis Hospital in Charleston, South Carolina. Born to the late Laurie and Vermell Capers, Alphonso was the oldest of five children.
He was educated in Colleton County schools. At Ruffin High School, he excelled in athletics, especially in football. Before he became disabled, “Pee” worked at the former Georgia Pacific Corporation in Varnville, South Carolina. Alphonso was a lifetime member of Toby’s United Methodist Church in Islandton, South Carolina.
On June 22, 1984, he married the former Kliena Middleton of Bamberg, South Carolina. To this happy union, three children were born.
He leaves to cherish his memory, his wife Kliena of the home; Daughters: Erica Marchee’ Capers of Columbia, South Carolina, and Sheema Kommero of Yemassee, South Carolina. A Son: Alphonso Capers, Jr. of Columbia, South Carolina. Grandchildren: Saniyyah Janiai Pyos and John Henry, Pyos Jr.
His brother: Dale Capers (Elizabeth) of Islandton, South Carolina. Sisters: Minister Loretta Cohen (James) of Morven, North Carolina; Dr. Vanessa Reed (Larry) of Irmo, South Carolina and Teresa Capers of Wadesboro, North Carolina.
Sisters-in-law: Bonnie Crosby (Harold), Brenda Middleton and Emma Middleton, all of Bamberg, South Carolina; Pearlie Nix (Bobby) of Orangeburg, South Carolina and Genetta Hammond (Bennie) of Bamberg, South Carolina. Brothers-in-law: Stevie Middleton of Greenville, South Carolina and St. Elmo Middleton, Jr. of Walterboro, South Carolina.
Grand-Aunt, Mrs. Earlee Wrice of Islandton, South Carolina. Aunts: Mrs. Ella Hue Buckner of Islandton, South Carolina; Mrs. Verlease Williams (Sam) of Brooklyn, New York; Mrs. Martha Romey (James) of Islandton, South Carolina; Ms. Elizabeth Capers of Brooklyn, New York; and Mrs. Edith Mae Wright (Willie) of Bronx, New York. Uncles: Deacon Sam Capers (Evangelist Ivory) of Hampton, South Carolina.
“Pee” will be remembered as a great family member to all and a friend to many.
